You might win mate LOL

Used to get good turn outs to the drags from forum members but it seems everyone is too busy nowadays...or too slack...

It's even got fancy traction control...

Yeah know what you mean think it's more to do with changing car culture & age related.

Only just getting back into cars myself, most of the revheads I knew growing up are sold out, maybe 1 or 2 with still projects unlikely they'll ever finish.

Just not sure about damn rain otherwise keen for a torrie fix.

So where were you all????  Had another great day thrashing the LH. I was pleasantly surprised at my replacement 355 still managing mid 11's with a best off 11.5 @ 116 MPH.  Not bad for a 100 HP less than my big engine and yet more driveable and street friendly and only running half a second slower :-) Go Gerry engineering LOL...

I was across the road at the GP circuit where the (Barry Sheene) International Festival of Speed bike meet was being held, does that count?

Sweet time, congrats mate. Especially for that MPH too.

Can you give us a quick spec rundown on that engine, and what driveline are you running in the car now?

Cheers Brett. It surprised me too but got out of the hole extremely well. I built the engine to make it more street friendly funnily enough. Changed the diff gears and conveter to match the engine specs.  Worked really well together and surprised quite a few people.  Was getting consistent 1.6 60 Ft times too.

COME 355 stroker

10.7:1 comp

Mild port VN heads

Crane F280 solid cam (244-248 @ 50)

TP dual plain high rise manifold

750 Street HP DP

450 FWHP

T350 fully manualised

4K TCE converter

9 inch 3.5 gears

ET street radials 235/60/15.

The car with me in it prior to my run weighed 1478kgs.

Man even though I'm running a 383 SBC, our setups are unbelievably similar.

Mine weighs in at around 1480kg with me in it. Makes around the same power ~450ish HP.
3200 stall (no doubt hurting me a bit), with 3.7's.

Engine wise, I'm running a smaller hydro roller (236-242 @ 0.050). Dual plane, Tri-y's, 750 HP Ultra, 10.5 comp.

On street rubber, I managed 11.82 @ 116MPH. Could only 60 foot around 1.7.

With a previous combo on ET Street Radials, it's gone 1.62 60 foot and 11.77 @ 115.

I enjoy trying to extract the max out of conservative combo's. All going to plan, I should be up at Heathcote racing this weekend.

I'm super impressed with your results. Do you reckon there's any more in it, or you've maxed it out?

With a colder air temp and slicks it might go a 11.3 but at the end of the day, the car is pretty much perfectly set up. Like you said, 11.5 @116MPH is pretty much at its potential. I was only expecting a high 11 at best but it hooked up so well it got me the better times. I based most of my calculations on my last injected stroker which had similar power but I could only get it running 11.9's.  But the converter and gearing let it down I think. Sometimes people over think diff gears and go for too low a ratio and it doesn't complement the cam. 3.5s are awesome for a mid range powered engine. My big engine had 550+ hp, a 5500 converter and 4:11's gear and only just cracked a 10 second pass. So this little sucker is not much slower really.

If you went a 4000k converter and 3.5 gears, I reckon you would improve too.

I am not going to chase better times.  This car has seen the strip enough now and it too nice a car to beat up.  So will more than likely reassemble my big engine and put it in something lighter and have some fun :-).  Thanks for your interest bud!

Similar thoughts & engine too it seems....I'd be happy for mine to go mid to high 11's on street rubber then drive home although it's not really highway friendly with 4.5k stally,4.5 gears & 27-28 inch street tyre.

Don't want to weigh vh sle now if yours are 1470kgs

Yeah mine is a bit fat but has a chassis kit and had half a tank of fuel and I weigh about 92kgs.  So the car would have been around 1360kgs in a reak world.  The VH would be very similar at a guess.

It is worth weighing them prior to a run to get a good idea of what HP your engine has using those HP darg time calcualtors. I worked my engine ouit to be about 450 FWHP.

Suspect vh is heavy with optioned luxury gear in it being sle model then add 9",thick steel tubs, mounting brackets,coil-overs etc & me (130kgs)

Think local tip/recyclers banned me...have weighed several cars there haha

Yeah my car could go on a diet, but it has a lot of heavy items: TH350, 9" rear, chassis kit etc.

PS. Got back to the drag strip last weekend, pushed a bit hard and my good luck ran out. After 2 decades of punishing my car, I launched hard and ripped a trailing arm mount off the diff housing. First time ever I had to tow the car home, bugger!
