Hi All

I'm looking at moving from QLD To Vic. I have a SS Hatchback and I'm wondering if VIC transport recognise the QLD mod plate ??

Thanks

You should be able to transfer reg without any need for inspection etc.
Just don't volunteer anything you aren't directly asked.
Welcome to Victoria! Australias Mecca for modified vehicle owners.

I sold a landrover defender to a guy in vic. I was Qld blue plated for inj 5L and turbo 400. He rang me back chasing engineering stuff for vic rego. Told him Blue plate was inspected and had no engineering report.

I was told buy a few people from Vic that were looking at my 57 to buy that Vic would not recognise QLD blue plates and had to start from scratch?

Yeah I'd be quite surprised for anything modified (or even stock for that matter), that a fresh RWC wouldn't be required at a minimum. Don't know the rules though.

Youll need to get a RWC in Vic. But if you dont mention the mods/engineering, its possible no one will even notice.

My coupe 4 came from cane toad land. I had the rego transferred into my name using a QLD address.
The rego had about five months left so I ran it until it was nearly due. Went into a VicRoads office as per their advice with an appointment and showed them proof of identity (my vic drivers licence) and had the car transferred to vic reg without need for a RWC. From memory I had to pay a plate fee and a small transfer fee.
They never sighted the car.

What's modified on your car? Victoria is very tolerant of mods and many do not need engineer approval compared to other states.

Read the expansion under RWC. Clearly states a RWC is not required if already in your name and rego is current or expired by less than 3 months.

Actually, I forgot to mention that the car is on SIV rego ( club rego) . Not sure if this makes a difference ??

Vic. club rego is not transferable, ( I guessing the car is not registered in your name ) so you will need a current RWC and depending on the modifications, you may need a engineers report.

The car is in my name but club rego isn't transferable. Therefore the car will be in Vic unregistered, but with QLD blue mod plate.

Curly one. You can reasonably claim the car is registered in your name. Registered is registered?
You might get lucky with the right person.

What part of Melbourne are you moving to?

Any part of Melbourne would have to be better than QLD.

So my curiosity got the better of me so I rang VicRoads.
Same procedure will apply as if you were in vic and going from club reg to std reg. this means you will need a RWC and they may or may not need to sight the vehicle to confirm numbers. They said if it has been previously full reg in QLD in your name and the number data matches then inspection shouldn't be required.

How hard is it to put it on full QLD reg?
Might be the easiest way as then it would be a straight transfer without the pot luck of rwc on a mod car in a new state.

What mods does it have?
