Looks a bit like a REPCO Hi power head that was fitted to the Holden Grey Motor.

The rocker gear looks very similar to the Grey motor rocker gear. But the Repco heads were Cross flow  So its not a HI power head.

I will ask around the HTCAV maybe someone knows

Cheers Piquet
The rocker gear is grey motor we think as it does say Holden on rockers and the thermostat housing looks like a grey engine one.

Irving head has round inlet ports & Duggan has rectangle ports.

Not sure, but doesn't the Duggan have the valves staggered?

With that blanking plate on the back of the head ,could this have been in a boat at some stage.
I'll take a photo to the HTCAV meeting on Wednesday night and if I have time I might drop pats Ian Tates workshop and see if he can cast any ideas for you.

Thanks Piquet
If you look at this photo you can see a bit of the manifold that came with the engine.
I think cross flow was mentioned but i could be wrong.
Tight fit on the head bolt on the right

Duggan's still inline valve.

Im an fairly certain all these Irvings were drilled for a thermostat housing front and rear, think a couple got reversed and drilled to fit falcon 6's?

Apparently this was made by a man by the name of Chamberland of tractor fame.

According the the elderly gentleman at the museum,to see how much horsepower they could extract out of the red six.

So weather it was copied from an Irving or Duggan i don't know or even what time this is from?

It was made in cast iron.

There was also a four barrel manifold on the floor, it looked like it was set up for a Rochester  small primary's and big secondary's

Be it right or wrong    that's what i was led to believe ?

Wayne, I think you will find the tractor man is Bob Chamberlain. John Deere owns Chamberlain nowadays

Looks like it was copied from an Irving head.

Looks like it was copied from an Irving head.

Or visa versa?

My belief is that Chamberlain had more to do with GMH than sticking a grey motor into a tractor.
They were "commissioned" to GMH for R&D stuff perhaps including this head?

Perhaps Irving inherited the mold and the blanks after the R&D was done and the concept rejected by GMH?

Time line verification needed here?

Also Chamberlain owned the Rolloy Piston Co,that supplied all the pistons to GMH at the time and also some Ford products.

Which adds more weight to what Rodomo is saying ?

I'm pretty sure PHIL Irving would not have copied a design from a tractor manufacturer, he was a great engineer who was very smart with how he designed his engines. He managed to win a world championship with Jack Brabham and many 350cc Grand Prix wins with motorbikes. Most probably the other way around, tractor guy copied him. The Irving head does have a heap of useable torque so it may well work in a tractor with very low revs and gearing. Just my two cents though.

Irvings have thermostat housings on each end- apparently so fords can flip them over and use them- so we end up with a blanking plate on the firewall side on a holden 6.

I wish I never sold my irving... not like they come up very often... now cash has freed up I would love one again.
