In the second edition  #9 refers to "standard controls for automatic transmissions" Cheers Ron.

Yep, 2nd Edition ADR9 (Standard Controls For Automatic Transmissions) came into effect 01 JAN 1972 and was repealed 01 JUL 1976 and was only included in the list on automatic vehicles.

 

I've always wondered if that meant ADR9 vehicles should need an engineers report when converting to manual, even a factory option manual, since compliance with the ADRs has been altered? Anyway...

 

In this context, any compliance plates with chassis numbers up to and including "ALXxxxxxxM" should have ADR9 included if they were auto, from "BLXxxxxxxM onward compliance plates should have had a capital "A" in the description to denote an automatic vehicle, since ADR9 was no longer valid.

 

As mentioned earlier, it's not unheard of that typos were made when stamping compliance plates but the chances of that would be like 1 in 10,000 (at least)?

Cool I see now.  Interesting mine is an Auto car without adr9 - I have the same list as the yellow car on the previous page.

From what bigfella237 said it was repealed in July 76 so any autos after that wouldn't have 9 stamped but it should have an A if auto

Yes, according to GMH, 8D77TG J570966X was completed on the 7-3-1977, thus requiring a CLXO Chassis.............

So what type of car does the OP have? Dosnt sound like its an SS after all?

I think they might need to check for other indicators on the body to be sure. Can't tell from adr plate.

The body was probably a manual sunbird or SL, pretty lazy all they had to do was bring the chassis number with it and it would be much harder to pick

That would require a greater skill-set than just being able to operate a pop-rivet gun...

Wouldn't the SS the tags come of have a BLX0..........M number being 3/77?

Rob, I have no doubt that you would be shocked and disappointed with the above comments, but this could be just a case of one plate being lost. People have removed them in years gone past to make the car less valuable to thieves, or it could have been misplaced at the panel beaters. Your next step is to identify whether it is a V8 or six/four cyl body shell from factory and then move forwards from there.
