I have never seen L23 on a tag ever

Looks like from those columns they were all for export Gene, hence you never having seen one.

Cheers, TB

Interesting, I was told by someone a CAMs license was required at the time but I put that off as a rumour seeing as the L34 was a street version engine with stock manifolds and other restrictions in place. After all Holden needed to sell a certain amount so they could homologate the engine and other parts into the touring car circuit. Doesn't make sense as to why they would make it difficult to attain to the average person.
That being said, it sounds like it was the case in your experience...

Anyone else on here actually order themselves one or know someone that did that can verify or add something?

Oh and I'm aware of the H.O pack, I know it was a dealer only option and not something you got through Holden officially. My query is just on how you went about getting your hands on an L34 from new

Not trying to be picky 74lh but didn't all L34 have HM extractor type headers and opened up intake manifold .

I have an old rusty set of those headers that came off an L34 many years ago (if they haven't rusted away to nothing in the shed by now), I helped a bloke I used to know change them and he was gonna throw the original set in the skip bin so I snavelled 'em. I had plans of making a copy of them but never got a round tuit.

They're the ones where all four individual pipes go down to a single flange, and there is a collector box that bolts on after that. Apparently the story was that exhaust systems were 'free' from regulation for race teams after the first joint, so all four pipes (each side) ran down to the first joint separately.

These are the factory extractors.

My manual 5000 is GU7. Most others I've seen are the same.

Yep, sorry. My bad. I had it in my head that the auto's were GU7 and manuals GU4.

For interests sake, 160 L34s came with the 2.78 and 103 came with the 3.08. The cars with the 3.08 gears also had the XU1 gearset in the M21. (2.32 1st gear)

"Also available was the superior TI0 four-speed gearbox."

That gearbox did not come out with L34, not even the high output option. They too had the M21

Correct

So were the 103 L34s with the 3.08 diff the only Toranas to have five litre V8 and GU4?

It looks like this LH 5000 press car had a 3.08 diff in it.
