I sure some one out there knows about Commodores

So is the small Salisbury diff in the 4 cylinder the same housing as the 6?

I need brackets / mounts to fit to a later BW diff to go in a VB.

There are a couple of 4 cylinder Commys at the farm soon to go for scrap and maybe I could use diff bits if the same

I put a VL wagon (BW) diff into a VB sedan (Salisbury) so I think the linkage points will all be the same?

From memory 4cyl diff are torrie pattern,internals same as 3.9 bango 25 spline axles.

 

Control arm brackets all same only real difference is shock absorber mounts at different angle for wagons.

 

I'd be keen on trimatic 7 tooth drive gears commonly found in 4cyl cars if you any?????????

Yes, all diffs VB - VS (non IRS) should bolt in the same. VN onwards are wider ~ approx 3'' IIRC? The early 4cyl ones dont have sway bars and are torrie pattern^, otherwise the same as 6cyl ones. VL turbo/V8 are the most sought after as they are 28 spline BW but the same width as VB-VK...

7 tooth gear for a Trimatic does not exist. Six, eight and nine tooth gears do exist.

GMH part number 5258754 (not available through Rare Spares) according to the Old Holden speedo calculator.

I have a VR  BW 28 spline LSD  and  VC 10 bolt 28 spline axles so thought would shorten the diff use 10 bolt axles and brackets from either the small

salisbury in the 6 cyl now or from 1 of the 4cyls.

if I use the 4 cyl then car won't be off road longer than the change over

putting a 308 into the VB.

The 7 tooth drive gear for the TH350 is pink, part number 6271537 (again N/A through Rare Spares).

 

The drive gears for the TH400 are completely different, the options being a brown 15 tooth (8629547), an orange 16 tooth (8623311) & a red 17 tooth (8629548) with driven gears ranging from 34 to 45 teeth.

I knew it was either the T350 or T400 that had a 7 tooth gear.

Found it in the LJ parts catalog - 4 cylinder Trimatic Three Speed Automatic:

Yes I know it doesn't say "Red" (none of their Drive Gears have any detail), but the part number agrees with the Old Holden calculator as being the Red 7 tooth Aussie transmission drive gear.

 

I couldn't find it in the LH catalog, and my copy of the LX catalog is missing those pages for Trimatic for some reason.

Most common in gemini 4cyl trimatics as they had short gears/small tyre like uncommon 4cyl commodore

 

Most describe the gears as red some say brown...when see colour it's like they're all different shades...got one here none of us 100% sure if brown or correct part as this one has no part number but does look like fits m20/trimatic

 

Annoying part is most thrown out/crushed with cars.

 

 

Need 7 tooth with red 23 to go with 305/50/15

I'll have a look through my collection but I'm sure I've never had any 4 cylinder Trimatics to pull apart?

Holy crap, so you're running something like 4.43:1 diff gears?

Yep...tubbed vh in build thread,poor mofo does mostly slow suburb or peak hour traffic jams.

 

4.56 geared 9"  & 27" tyre

 

Probably go cheaper 275/60/15 later on.

 

 

Most Gemini got raped for 8" convertor so can be rebuilt into high stall convertors for v8...so yeah speedo gear/convertor always gone whenever I've seen trimatic gemini
