These days you can buy a running complete LS1, Trans and Loom for $2000 or even a wrecker..

Stock V8 will blow that 202 out of the water

I have no dealings with this mob and don't intend to. But I am curious as to why you say 'careful' but then don't elaborate?
It paints a certain picture without any specifics to add any weight???

I have been doing reaerch on doing a ls conversion , but being a UC they never came out with a V8 so the motor and trans and diff isn't the main part of the problem been quoted big $$$$$ to get it engineered and certified because of QLD transport rules and regs . Thats what i have been led to believe anyway . So been doing research on the red and blue 6's and seeing some pretty decent hp numbers especially when combined with tripple webbers . I am open to any help and info i can get as i am new to this game . I have done just a factory restore on my UC have never gone beyond that into the performace rehlm .

What's the lol about bomber ? Are you saying that it's not possible to get the ls1 for 2k, or you think that an ls1 won't kill the 202 in the same car with a tune ? I'm presuming it's the price.

A mixture.

Im definitely not doubting you can get a ls1 for that money. Infact ive seen them way, way cheaper.

But the whole idea that thats all its gonna cost is frOcking hilarious, once the engine is in and running plus engineers report etc your looking at 10k.

And i highly doubt a STOCK ls1 would hold a candle to a half well built six. The one linked is a lot of money for not a lot, but would be nice and driveable i suppose.

So out of intrest how much should a half well built 6 cost ? and what would need to be done to the straight 6 to make it compete with a standard ls1 ? . Keen to know

Out of interest, where did I say a V8 conversion will cost $2000?.. All I said or should of been more clear is that it's not difficult to find a running LS1 including trans and Loom for $2000 vs the $7000 mild 202, yes in the end a LS1 conversion would cost $3-4,000 more but you've got a V8 and making more power...

That 202's on eBay, peak power is 244hp and torque 256nm, LS1 out of a VT produces 345hp and 470nm... So yep, it will blow that 202 out of the water!

LS1 conversion is best value for money imho!

Turbo would be best bang for the buck but you'll lose driveability and add alot more complexity, cost depends how reliable you want it to be? eBay turbos are cheap, doubt they'd last long though..

Not looking to turbo . Hoping to run N /A for time being . I have seen a few supercharger 6 bangers on youtube though making good hp

There's only one solution. Stick a Hemi in it with a GMH 3.3 Litre sticker om the air filter housing.

Granted when the ls1 hasn't been retuned they're a lot slower. But a decent tune for a standard engine they go quite well actually. Add a cam ect they go very well. Just saw 1 fitted to a hk makes 400 rwhp cam package only. New top end being fitted to make more.

There was a bit of a ruckas at the Collie speedway years ago when the scrutineer decided to tear down the 202 from the the winning car in the visible stock class and found hemi rods on an offset ground crank.

From my experience with a half well built six, depending on spec, budget 5 to 6 grand for the long and another 2 to 3 grand for all the bolt on parts around the long motor. There are lots of small costs people forget to included on a build hence the saying figure out what you think it will cost and double it.

Also, having done both, a mild 308 with similar performance will probably end up being slightly cheaper, sounds strange but the motor is in a lower state of tune so needs less work/labour spent on it plus more people modify 308s so the parts tend to be cheaper.

Also don't underestimate a time and money for a LS conversion, I can't see how you would have it converted and done for less than 10 grand and then you will still have a 200,000+km engine in your car.
