considering buying repo headlight surrounds for 73 4door lj sl
black painted insert.
anyone here had to do same? If so where is a good source?
Seems to be a few available, are they all made by same company and sold by different outlets on the net? Is there some i should be wary of....eg poor fitting etc.
also rare spares has them advertised as xu1 surrounds, im presuming theyd be same fit as 4 door?
Thanks again

LJ headlight bezels/rims are the same for all LJ 6cyl models.
AFAIK there are two varieties available. Rare Spares and Phil's Rotaries (New Old Car Co?).
Unless Phil has improved his product you're probably best to stick with the ones from Rare Spares.
Cheers
Dave.

The ones I got were very early off the production line.
Ended up with two sets, one out of one of the sets was an improvement.
Perhaps they refined them somewhat before you purchased yourse?

Guys, I don't want to be the 'Grammar Nazi' but the word is not 'REPO', it is 'REPRO', as in reproduction. The abbreviation 'repo' means repossession.

I'd be interested to actually see a reproduction set in the flesh as I haven't had that opportunity yet.

I looked at this thread to see if a mate got a mention with his product and he did.
I didn't look at the heading, spot a spelling mistake and then only post about that spelling mistake.
And it's "old goat" not "old coat"

The surrounds were returned to the rightful owner and we had our day in court.
He never did source a pair for that car. And as I said, it's a pretty shameful and embarrassing story to tell, which I am extremely remorseful for. I would be prepared to kill if someone stole parts off my car. Terrible.

If the demand is there I can still repair LJ headlight surrounds. Just keep in mind how labour intensive the job is and the experience and skill level required.
I've done them for a quite a few forum members and big dollar cars, I even have friends who are panel beaters that would prefer to get me to do them than attempt them themselves.
It's actually quite surprising how bad they can be and still be saved,I haven't had to scrap any yet. I can't say the same for tail light surrounds though.
