Yes, the first number is the belt width, the A means frOck knows what, and the last number is the length.

The A is the profile/shape, a B profile belt won't fit an A profile pulley right.

I've seen different brand/style alternators (with different output) on different engines in full sized Holdens, is the same true for Toranas? A different alternator may have a slightly different sized pulley which would obviously change the belt length slightly. Clearly the A/C part is a mis-print.

Mate, you can put some string around the pulley complete set up put some masking tape on or mark it with a Nikko, drive to repco & say next size down please to allow for say 1/2" belt stretch. Main thing is to check that the belt isn't getting damaged on the square edge at the side, this is caused by the pulley being un serviceable ie (f@cked) & check that the pulleys are all tracking straight to each other. A straight edge over them from outside to outside across the flats if that makes sense, you can space them in & out easily, keeps them quieter too. I've replaced a shipload of belts on pulleys, 6 or 7 belts wide is way more difficult. You'll easily work it out mate. Gary.

Brad,

In your top photo, I can see the problem. Also, I stand corrected too. You do have the correct tension-er arm!

I discovered that I have two types. One the same as yours & the other as described in my first reply.

Looks like your alt. tension-er arm is bolted in the wrong position. You have it bolted to the water pump.

It should be bolted below the pump & onto a timing case bolt with a tube spacer which is right next to the fuel pump.

If you re-position the tension-er arm to that position then you should have enough free play in the arm slot for your right size belt.

I checked the parts manual & white car which are the same. My gold car has the other arm which I now believe is wrong.

I found the tension-er arm in the Air Conditioner V8 section.

A bit of detail where it's bolted in the illustration.

There's not much else to go on other than that in my LX Catalogue.

LH should be the same. Let us know if is isn't.

I finally went out and checked mine, and it concurs to the photo in the other thread.

For some reason I have had a lot of trouble putting photos up in here lately. I'll try again later on.

Thanks Laurie!

Single outlet on the water pump to! Nice one!!! Original belt?

Is it possible to get a closer shot of the spacer? Is it round or sided?

Thanks!

There is another obvious one you haven't spotted yet. :P

I'll take it off and measure it up Brad. It is round, but i'm pretty sure that it has a thicker wall than standard tube. If I can't get to it today, I will do it on Monday.

Nope. Lower.

I didn't have time to stick my old imperial verniers over it, but I'm guessing it's a 3/8 hole drilled through 5/8 rod.

It only gives it to you in decimal places, not fractions.

I gave the local Holden dealer a call for sh*ts and giggles and low and behold, they had a NOS spacer in stock.

Geez that was easy!!! Thanks again for your help everyone. Amazing what Holden still keeps on the shelf.
