I gave the local Holden dealer a call for sh*ts and giggles and low and behold, they had a NOS spacer in stock.
Geez that was easy!!! Thanks again for your help everyone. Amazing what Holden still keeps on the shelf.

= Gee we're antiquated up here :tease:

Well the manifold is L34 specific, but that is still not it. What did the L34 and XU1 motors have in common?

Spacer - Brace to Front Cover - 8cyl eng. Pt No. 9930004 (There is always the possibility the aforementioned part number has been superseded since 1975)

Thought I'd add some more info to this post, mines got factory air and while its not the original motor all the ancillary bits all look to be off the original motor. The bracket has the spacer as discussed but is bolted as shown in pic, not to the water pump. I got a 1090 fan belt and it was right at the end of adjustment so got a 1080 and its how it is in the photo. One odd thing was I got a new GMB water pump and the pully was sitting slightly back towards motor, the alternator and balancer pully lined up perfectly. I ended up putting a 2mm shim on the water pump to space it out and it lines up perfectly

Yep. That is the same bolt mine is attached to. Thanks for the heads up on the GMB pump, as I am about to fit one to the Group A.

From memory I thought the GMB pump with the cast impeller had the fins going in the opposite direction…

I got this pump as it had the cast impeller . What do you mean with the fins? I never checked but would they be all the same , engine only goes one way?
I also put on a romac balancer and assumed it was the issue as it’s thicker and not the pump , but the alternator Pulley lined up perfectly
