You got rivets & plastic clips for the moulds of Rare's, come in a kit

I use them when I put the moulds back on my Hatch.

The previous owner cut the factory plugs off.

You won't buy new chrome/alloy/stainless trims. Only second hand ones are available occasionally.

I don't mind the trimless look on hatches but I always thought they looked a little unfinished on the B pillar as it exposes the screw heads for the plastic vent.

Would look better if there was a plug to cover those or something. If you have the vents black, you can probably get those small furniture plugs thinggies that cap off phillips heads really neatly but are very tiny.

Sorry Shelly, I thought you were chasing the clips, not a full set of trim.

And don't expect a decent set to come cheap either, especially a factory set to suit a passenger's side mirror!

Well that's different...

That kinda looks like the correct mirror (in the second photo), only mounted in the wrong place, did that used to be a Sunbird or something?

I've seen people cut them to fit the mirror, but it usually looks messy.

I think I've seen a Torana "S" sedan that came from the factory without any external mirrors at all, but I thought all SL's had a driver's side mirror at least?

I wonder if it was some weird "delete-option", I don't suppose you found the build sheet under the carpet when you pulled it apart all those years ago?

Well there ya go... the LX parts cattledog lists mouldings with and without mirrors for all Sunbird, SL & SS hatches, RH and LH doors...

Attached File  LX Front Door Mirrors - Aerodynamic Type.JPG   114.72K   4 downloads

Obviously you must've been able to order an LX hatch without any external mirrors at all, how tight would you have to be!

As a side-note Shelly, I reckon your driver's side "one-piece" moulding would be VERY rare for a hatch, might be a shame to cut it up?

Those screw on trim 'corner' pieces are hard to find, especially the passenger side as most LX's didn't have a passenger side mirror; it wasn't compulsory by law till 1981 I believe. I'd say leave off the passenger mirror till you find that piece, then you will know where to cut your existing trim, cut it as close as possible to the mirror (a mm or two) so it doesn't look too bodgy.

Most who have that passenger side piece on an LX would've got them from a UC.

As I said before, it depends on what look you are after, I personally like the sports look but if you're restoring it to SL spec, use the standard mirrors.

Did GM-H do that?

I cut my L/h mould longer, put in in the vice, flatten it out &  drilled a hole.

Pick up the mirror screw as per factory.

Did this before you could get the corners of E-bay.

If I had the skill to remove the moulding and replace it at the time, I would've cut it more near the mirror and created a tab to curl over so it wasn't just a straight cut but the way it is now, nobody can notice it unless they're close up.

Shelley posted these pics a while ago and freaked me out with those trims without the mirror gap.

Did they ever make hatches in LHD?  That would be a logical explanation why the RHS option for no mirror exists.

I have a good drivers side spare I would swap you for that single piece but gee wizz Mudgee is a long way from Brissy.
