For those peopl that havent heard there was a historic race meeting at phillip Island a couple of weks ago.

There were races for under and over 3,000cc Group N Cars

1x Practice session

5 races over 3 days

i didn't go down but having seen the video/incar clips and  the photos on FB of the Group N category it was a meeting that resulted in possibly 2 maybe 3 cars destroyed and at least another 20+ cars damaged.

Some severely some with minor damage.

A couple were unavoidable. One mustang had a component failure at turn 1 which caused a major incident.

One other had an electrical problem that caused the engine to just stop in getting the car off the track it suddenly restarted and speared him back on to the track and hit a Falcon Sprint.

Some of the others were of people divebombing down the inside when there really was no room.and just plain overdriving.

One car was seen in the video clip going down the inside of turn 1/race 1 on the opening lap with 2 wheels in the grass. That is just a recipe for disaster and damage.

preety sad really.

possibly close to $400K damage to the cars.

expensive racing.

Yes i looked at the photos on Facebook, plenty of avoidable carnage. Lots of cars with damage its a shame and I hope after this event people take into consideration other people's cars.

long storyas i sold alf some axles for the red car  , but spoke to alf bargawana on the way back from pi and he was pretty pissed . he said that he was towing  a smoking wreck.

it's just poor form to trash so many cars in an event, i was thinking of attending next year , but if the car is going to be smashed up then im thinking again.

was it 20 cars got smashed ?

Apparently after Alf's car hit the Armco, the damage to the fencing was that bad,  they had to cancel the rest of the meeting...

So i can only imagine what shape the car was in ?

If The Alf Bargwann a car was involved in the last race incident it was cused by a mechanical problem. the Rusty French Mustang had a Right front brake caliper sick on and not release going into turn 1. This caused him to spin and by what I have been told the Bargwana car came round turn 1 and had nowhere to go. So Mechanical problem. Still lots of damage to both cars. The Rusty French Mustang was a brand new car.

The incident that damaged the Two falcon Sprints was also a mechanical problem. The Ward  Sprint lost power to engine so it cut out, in getting it off the track the ignition came back on and the engine firedup spinning him across the track and hitting the other sprint. Not much that you can do in that case.

Some of the other incidents were over riving  but a lot were mechanical.

Spoke to Steve Land and he got slammed by a Datsun going into Siberia. He is hoping to be repaired by The Easter meeting.

So sadly Steve makes 24 cars damaged. Hope that he makes Bathurst Easter races.
There were comments at the HTCAV general meeting last Wednesday by the president and several competitors. Videos of some of the impacts were caught on in car videos and have been reviewed. Not sure what can be done from here but this after the start line fiasco with the lights a couple of years ago is starting to get PI Historic a sad reputation.

One can only hope that it doesn't affect entries too much.

In my humble opinion is is a meeting that has all the hallmarks of a great international standard Historic meeting but there are a few problems. It is expensive to enter, although it is over 3 days, it means taking at least 2 days off work, 3 if you are from interstate. And accomodation is restricted and costly. It's too far to drive back to Melbourne for accomodation.

Winton Festival of Speed in August is a great meeting.

It is on the long track and often has something thrown into the mix like a 16-20 lap race with a compulsory pit stop thrown in for good measure.

It is always evolving .

i believe that the entry Poster has been released already  August 4-6.

Bring the billy lids and the boss cocky make a week of it and go to Ruthergllen and  Millawa for a wine visit while your here.

And it's 3 hours ( at least) closer to home as well
