23F1 and 19G1 these are the only two cast batches that I found for the Ck  I haven't had enough Nk blocks to give a cast update

XU-1 RAT.   19G1 was also the cast of CK 54845.

John,As far as i'm concerned, The pictures i have put up are from a CK Adelaide car which was wrecked out years a go it still has a xh cam steel crank and the cast dates for NG blocks are 7G2 and 10G2 which are in the warranty period. I have only seen 2 NK blocks yours and one in nz ex race car.

A few owners of 3100x xu1,s and CK have NG block in their cars.

Arthur Tucker RIP was NASCO Material Control Supervisor for LC,LJ Torana inward, outward and stock lost division.

There was a supervisor for each department eg: Chev,Pontiac,Buick and HK,HT and HG.

Anthony, I would say this is a restamp as with the CK the 23 comes first the the F-1.

I'm no engine block research scientist but wasn't letter first a 60s thing

Hi

From my limited interest and research I believe that the change to engine block cast dates from the old (USA) date format of Month/Day/Year to British format Day/Month/Year occurred in July 1971.

We know that the engine numbers were not always stamped in strict order of production of the actual block, so it follows that there could be engines fitted to cars of all models during the June/July transition period that have the 'earlier' Month/Day Year format cast date such as June 23rd 1971 (F 23 1). The engines that should raise suspicion are the 3100x that have the later Day/Month/Year cast format.

As a side note - it is interesting that the cast date format never changed when it came to the head casting until 1973.

Cheers

Bazza

Not one picture of a NK block has ever been produced. I dont believe they exist, unless restamped.

No such thing as a nk block.you won't see a picture as they don't exist.

Yes there are NK blocks I have owned and seen them in the passed,,, there is a one owner old man that lives in the Adelaide hills that owns a white CK car that had a replacement NK put in it under warranty back in 74, I went and looked at the car the same time I was down there with departed forum member daz

I got know pics at the time but he did. There was a post on the forum somewhere with all Holden motors and the replacement ones as well and the NK was in there too.

Cheers gong

Another great history lesson for the LC owners, if I see one of these blocks around I'll pass it along to a LC owner,

I looked at all the posts and couldn't find any nk pictures. I have been around
Xu1s long time ane never seen one.
Today i ask a old mate that worked in the 70s and said only seen NG replacements.
Why would they have a NG and Nk ?

I've got a NG block sitting around that I don't want if anyone's keen.
Will have to check the other numbers though.

Perfect for anyone who doesn't have the original 186 engine for their HR, HK, HT, HG, or LC XU1 resto.
