really you should compare the last of the XU1s and the middle of the L34s as the time frames are similar and the L34s bugs half sorted

Showroom cars = XU1 victory

Agree, and if there wasn't a muscle car scare, XU-1 V8 would of killed everything for years.

True dat ... and my car would have been built in a factory instead of a shed.

A9X by a lot. If it pissed down with rain all day - A9X by a little. Anyone see the race between the white A9X sedan and the white XU1 in Tassie at Symmons plains a few years ago in the rain?? Damn, it was good close on (and over) the edge racing! Posted Image The two Toranas left the rest of the field, including Porsches and turbo RX7s for dead, and raced bumper to bumper right to the end.

Add the 1980, 81 and 82 Commodores to the equation - in my opinion, still doesn't change the A9X at the top, but the XU-1 would still probably be last in the list.

What I'd really like to see is a real contest between a freshly built properly prepped Group C A9X with good current rubber, and a current V8 Supercar around Bathurst. I know which one would sound and look better, no matter the outocme!

it was actually a l34 vs xu1 at symmons plains in the wet.The superior stability of the A9x would have killed the twitchy xu1 even if the power to weight advantage of a v8 xu1 would look good on paper but you have to control it.Not knocking the xu1 as look how they decimated the mighty phase 3.Take a hq at bathurst with single barrel carby large body no rear disc brakes but these days do quicker lap times to the mighty xu1.

Considering the two commodores were new and the drivers thrashed them around the track.

Whilst the A9X was near 30yrs old with shit tyres and the wrong diff ratio that limited top speed badly.

Considering that the Bowdens were allowing this national treasure out at such speed and Peter would have babied it around with this in mind.

I think the A9X did very well.

I think the odds were stacked against the A9X as it would look bad for Holden if the 27yr old A9X came first.

Don't you think so?

The A9X was also being nursed around by brock with a broken rocker arm.
