Hi guys,

This is my first post.

I have a LX 4 dr with LH doors. The doors have the stainless trim around the side windows. I have been told this is an SLR5000 only feature. Is this correct or is it standard trim? Not many cars have it, it seems.

Thanks T.

As above. SL. SL/R 3300, SL/R 4.2, SL/R 5000.

You could get about $400 for the set if in good complete condition.

True LH doors won't have the side intrusion bars fitted. I have see a few LH SL/SLR doors with the correct stainless trims and bars. Best of both worlds!

Only the very early '74 cars had no door intrusion bars.

A wipe with some bog over the spot welds & i doubt anyone would know the difference.

Are you sure Col? My father's LH is a 9/75 and the doors have no intrusion bars (well the original ones don't).

Am i sure? No.

I was always led to believe that ADR29 (side door impact) was implemented around 6-74.

After a quick look around i can only find reference to it coming into affect 3-76.

From what i can gather, it was up to each State as to when they complied, as long as it was pre 3-76.

I can't see GMH building cars to suit each State ( only putting ADR29 into say .... a Melbourne car but not in a Brisbane car to save a bob ) but they certainly had enough notice that ADR was coming into play.

Here is where i get confused: The ADR's are listed numerically on the body tag.

ADR 29 is 3-76, but ADR27A (pollution gear) shows as 7-76?

I wonder why it took 4 mths to nut out 27A when 29 was already in effect?

I wonder if the tags on those 4mth cars have 27 & 90?

According to the document itself, ADR29 didn't apply to vehicles manufactured before "1 Jan 1977" and even then, only on "other passenger cars"...

I see what you're talking about, where it says "Amended March 1976", but I wouldn't have thought manufacturers would go to the extra expense of adding the brace until they absolutely had to? (Although there may have been a few weeks (or maybe a month) of overlap?)

But who knows? It's getting hard to find unmolested examples to verify such things these days!

If the document was amended in 3-76 then there had to be a working document prior to then.

I see reference to ADR 29 from 1968.

I have a rear door from a '75 SLR which has the intrusion bar in it. I can't remember the build month but i think it was Sept.

If i was a car manufacturer & customers were being severely injured (or worse) in minor side collisions, i would be changing my design even if only to avoid bad publicity.

My Sept 76 LX Hatch, which is a two-owner low km original, has no side intrusion bars in the doors.

My 11/76 LX hatch does not have intrusion bars but can't confirm doors are original. Cheers Ron
