Just some advice please. My friend had his M20 gearbox fitted to his LJ but the bloke forgot to fit the sandwich plate that sits on top of the red 6 between motor and gearbox.
My question is can the gearbox be unbolted and cross member removed that will allow clearance for fitment or does the box need to be removed altogether?
just hoping.....
Cheers.

Box will need 90% removing but not totally out of the car?
Should be able to get it without taking the shifter off for instance.

Theoretically you only have to get the box back far enough to get it off the dowels......
So starter out bellhousing bolts out and try from there?
Im thinking the x member and tailshaft will also have to be dropped. Clutch depends on the style he is running.

like what adam said above ^^^ you have to cut the bottom of the dowels holes because the flywheel is so close to the block

Oh yeah I forgot about that sandwich plate goes on before flywheel.

Don't stress. It's only two small cuts under either side to remove the metal the width of the dowel holes. No biggy, and will effect nothing. Much easier than pulling the box, bellhousing, clutch and flywheel. Let us know how you go....

Had to trim it a few times but bingo.
Photo for future reference.
