Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone knows of someone that has an LJ with an IRS set up?

I'm interested in doing a conversion and would love some info on who can install the set up.

Thanks

Saw a jag one in lx years ago. I think it was a crs job. Can get jag rear ends made to any width these days so prolly possible.

I'd look at something like an S13 Silvia rear end. Would be close width wise.

A friend fitted one to an AE86 sprinter, had it engineered etc.

You'd be best with a floor cut though imho

Pretty sure S13 wil be way to wide, I have a S13 ass laying out the side of the shed will measure it up tomorow if I remember.

Not worth the effort IMO.

Curious, what would the actual benefit be?

Better off going all custom and set everything to suit the COG and Roll Axis. You'll end up having to modify everything from a donor anyway.

DEEP pockets to get right, are you going to be seam welding the unibody? gusseted rollcage? If the body isn't stiff soon as you hit any corner the alignment will be thrown way out and all that money and hard work is going to be no matter than what rolled out the factory door.

Don't be deterred if that's what you want

The yanks are doing alot of bolt in IRS 9" setups nowdays

Easy to get for Pustangs and becoming more available for Camaros etc

I'm doing an old school datto (1000 coupe) that I have shortened a 1600 IRS to fit

Not finished yet... but one day

Lots of Jag IRS conversions done in the day to Holden vans , EH's etc

They are a very simple setup and used in hotrods alot as they are basically a 4 bolt job to fit

Have one in the shed for a hotrod project of my own one day

This is a nice set up if you want to order from America. 2 inches wider than stock too tho.

What about Datsun 180B?

180B/1600 is what I'm using in the Dat

Can't measure it though... already cut about 8" out of it

Track width on a 1600/180B is 1270

I think from memory hub to hub is actually 1305

That would be a much closer fit.

Mx5 perhaps?

You could easily narrow the S13/180sx stuff.

There's a young guy locally that hacked some up and wedged under a 1200 coupe

Why? I know I asked before. They will not be any good in a powerful car and will just add weight for zero benefit in my opinion. What am I missing? Ride, handling? cheers Aaron.

If you are contemplating, i agree with some others, look to the jap stuff, find a similar track width.
Alot of there stuff is, as a subframe, so matter of some box section between the rails for strength and making mounting pads for the subframe.
Not reinventing the wheel that way.
Yes a full custom would be better BUT is it worth justifying the cost, in most peoples cases no.
Would shit on the factory rear end geometry anyway.
As for ride and handling.
AND if you go a nissan for eg, if the subframe assembly can be left stock the aftermarket industry is huge for that stuff.
Most aftermarket stuff for toranas aimed at handling is actually junk. Old technolgy that has not changed in 30 years.
