What extractors/headers are people using that clears the heat-shield fitted with the 1.75 CD Strombergs? Looking for opinions on a decent set but I would like to put the heat-shield back on.

Thanks

Cart before the horse Chris. get some extractors that WORK and FIT, then the heat shield that is probably $3.00 worth at a sheet metal fabricators can be reworked. Alternatively go to Repco, get the ACL race series thermoset heat shield, make a cardboard template, fit it up, cok it with exhaust heat and "voila" ( unless you are a rivet counter?)

this...

ACL heat shield is excellent and took me 20 minutes to fab up. Works a treat.

Pacemaker pipes are very good for the price, but HMYCs are considered very good- next best to custom.

hm9c's will fit with 1.75cd's and still allow you to fit your stock heat shield no problems.

But dont they have clearance issues with the firewall? I thought the firewall needed massaging for them, which sounds a much bigger, more confronting task than modifying the heat shield... I havent fitted them before though, so just working off memory from what others have said.

Not the firewall but the cnr of the floor pan and the engine mount. They work well but the fit should be much better than it is in my opinion.

For everyone's info. I am told today that HM Headers have closed up shop (I tried to ring them, no answer). Look's like it's Pacemaker's for me.

Shame about HM Headers... they did produce great products... Nonetheless, you will find the pacemakers more than adequate! They are good pipes.

Thanks John, ordering mine today. Pacemaker will supply them already ceramic coated, just waiting to see how much extra they want.

So if HM have closed up shop then that make my spare set of HM9C worth a bit more than the 300 I was offered. Must be really scarce by now.

Doesn't this mean that now no one makes pipes with a 1 and 5/8 primary for our mighty 6's?

There will be someone that will still make them to whatever size one would like but they will probably cost a ship load more.

Yeah, custom pipes are great but come at a cost- generally about $1200 is about as cheap as I could find for custom pipes... even making them myself the price would add up.

From memory though there are a few other mobs doing 1 5/8 pipes but I didnt like them, the primaries were too short from memory. I think Aussie speed might also do a set... not sure...

Anyway, from most things i've seen, 1 1/2 inch primaries will do well on most holden 6 setups anyway, and can make power up to and probably over 280hp at the fly- whilst there might be some gains with 1 5/8 in the higher rpm range, im not sure that I would bother ripping off good 1 1/2 inch set to buy a 1 5/8 inch set as it would not be a very economical way to make extra ponies... but what do I know lol

I was making around 300 with a set of 1 1/2" pipes, will be interesting to see how it goes with the 1 5/8" pipes.
