Hi all
Wanting to get rid of the banjo in my LX torana, I have a 9 inch lsd diff and housing lying around that will need to be cut down. Have heard they suck to much power, and not sure whether to use it or to put in a Salisbury diff instead.
Thanks for any input

I have had all types of diffs and still think the old 9 inch is the best choice.  But it does also come down to engine power and the need for such a big diff.  10 Bolt Salisbury's with a 4 pinion conversion and billet axles are my second choice.

How hard do you plan on driving? Skids/burnouts/drags

My go to diff was always bw78 28spline + lsd for streetcars...lightweight & still good for odd skid or drag without going crazy.

Leaning more to stronger crewman diff if had a choice now for streetcar/racer...stronger than bw78,more choice in parts & lighter than 9"

Current car has heavy duty 9" under it.

You do notice the extra weight & handling difference but it will cop a beating without breaking a sweat lol

Depends on your budget too, there's so many options out there for 9" gear to help with the weight, both unsprung and rotational.

Alloy carriers (such as Strange Engineering), lightened gear sets, gun-drilled axles, etc., how much do you want to spend?

Thanks guys for ur input defiantly has helped me make up my mind. Not really going to drive it like a mad man when it's back on the road so might go something lighter. Might sell my nine inch to buy me something else. Cheers

Just put the nine inch in (said the actress to the bishop...)
It should last forever and survive any power upgrades down the track.

Hi sloffador

What is this "banjo with Eaton Tru-Trac" you speak of?

Will it work with the UC rear disc axles?
