Hey guys, just ordered a set of polished Simmons fr17's for that hatch build. Rears are 17x11 with 315/35 nitto nt05r drag radials and the fronts are 17x9 but I can't decide on rubber size.
The nitto's come in 3 sizes that could work.
235/45 644mm diameter
235/40 634mm
255/40 636mm

I'm running 320mm wilwood with 4 piston callipers on the front which reduces the hub to hub length by 1.8mm over standard according to Crs. And I'm using a 5 inch back space wheel. I should also mention I will not be using power steering for this combo. Let's hear some pro's and con's for each and try come to a decision👍

Not alot

But caster and camber settings will play into this alot

The suspension smart people I'm sure will weight in soon

The 235 would be my pick... either 40 or 45... I'd prefer the 45 myself... and am using the same size tyre on the rear of one of my dattos I'm building

235 is abit skinny for a 9" rim though (don't tell anyone I'm using a 10)

Cheers datto. This is exactly the info I'm chasing. The 235/45 would definitely be my choice but the 644mm rolling diameter has me a little worried. Which had me leaning towards the 235/40, the downside to this is that the sidewalls are gonna be a lot smaller compared to the back tyres.

I guess the big question is how much more is involved fitting the 644mm diameter tyres compared to the 634mm?

Craig,

Consider Achilles 123 semi slick have this size 255/35/17 rolling diameter 610mm. Michelin does this size as well (Can't locate any at this stage as they are so popular). I'm considering running these on my track day front wheels 17x9's. As these will miss the front lower part of the flare on my car.

Just letting you know the rolling diameter of 235/40/17 620mm, not 234mm.

I run 235/40/17 on the front and found bang for buck have been federal 595 rsrr. I know federals aren't normally in my scope of tyres but I will buy them again. These are cheap as well.

I have 255/40s on a 17x9, any narrower and they will look a bit stretched - which I guess is OK if you're into that, but it won't match the rears. In the real world I'm not sure the 255 is that different from a 235/45 in height. I wouldn't like the look of a smaller sidewall either.

Work required to fit (with lots of caster):

As far as steering goes, I had them without power steer for a while (with 5+ degrees caster) and they weren't too bad. Having good bearings in the column makes a lot of difference.
