I'm after some fine spline axles for my LJ. Anyone know where the best place to source these are? Is there anyone (Sydney?) doing just the axles to fit into regular banjo fine spline LSD's? I have 2 x 3.36 fine LSD centres and I may as well use them.

I think Keith Croft is still making them. He uses billet axles and machines the splines to suit. Western Sydney. Knows his stuff.

I don't know why people are still using them. Why not just buy the billit lsd 4 pin carrier for 600 and fit 28 spline axles. If you want to keep ur torana pattern just re drill to suit. Any diff shop should be able to do it for u.
Where abouts do you buy this $600 lsd billet carrier? Is it for the banjo? Thanks

Thanks Col,
Would you have the contact details for Keith Croft as I can only locate a Croft Fabrications at Oakville but it says it's permanently closed.
Would you know roughly what billet axles are going to match the banjo centre?

If you want to use a factory 23 fine spline LSD then Gemini axles are a cheap option. They need to be machined (shortened) and re-studded to suit Torana wheels. The Harrop Tru Trac is available in 23 spline but will be more expensive than a Holden LSD.

Thanks Steve.
I'd suspect Gemini axles would be pretty short in supply these days. I'd love the Harrop Tru Trac but I already have 2 Holden LSD's so I might as well use them rather than fork out more dosh.

The Diesel Gemini & Station wagon are the better axle Gemini axles.

Sell them to some fanatics who go on about original car and buy the harrop one and drive past and wave when they brake the holden one.

I may be wrong but I believe Keith is in poor health and has closed his business.

The ones for Aussie cars (Banjos and Borg Warner 78's) are done by Eaton specifically for Harrop. You won't find them listed on Summit. You can also chech with summit racing to see if they have anything. I know they deal with eaton true trac stuff aswell
They have a premium price tag, too. The volumes would be a lot lower on those products than TrueTracs for American cars such as 10-Bolts and 9"s.

Shame about Keith. Hope he gets better. Sounded like a really nice guy on the phone.
I think I may go down the path of selling the LSD's and going Harrop as Shtstr suggested. The Eatons are $1200 from Harrop for 28 spline. Billet axles are about $1500 to suit from Bosnjaks in Sydney + Bearings.
Damn....Anyone want to buy 2 x 3.36 LSD's for, oh I don't know - $2700 sounds like a good price.............

If you go to the wreckers and get 2 vn vp vr vs axles they are 1 piece and are fully heat treated so you can re spline them and re drill to torana pattern and get the locating hub turned down for torana aswell. All up they shouldn't cost more than 600 including buying the axles. You will also need to put the torana bearing on the axles

Harrop recut my banjo Detroit Locker side gears to take ( I think) 23 splines. Keith Croft reworked some Commodore axles for this with screw on bearing retainers for good measure and since then no broken axles , where previously about 2 hillclimb meetings was the service life of a coarse spline axle.Car has about 250HP and as you know Detroit Lockers don't take prisoners especially when you run sticky race rubber.

Chuck, Harrop did the rework of the side gears for about $200.00, Keith Croft supplied the reworked axles for about $850.00 delivered to country Victoria. All this was about 8 years ago, axles still in car, no issues. Someone else apart from keith will be able to do them, ask someone running Group NC for a suggestion as to who.
