Hi there, I have just put a HX 253 auto into my UC Torana. Was a 1.9L manual. The other day I had it cranking over and starting to fire. The next day absolutely nothing. Battery fully charged, battery terminals all okay. Big earth from motor to car to battery. Does the auto need to be earthed also.

AS above (try it in park & neutral)

Or has wire from the key fallen off the starter solenoid?

If it hasnt then stick a screwdriver across the larger positive terminal (from the battery) to the spade terminal (easier with small spade wire removed) on the starter solenoid.

If it spins over then back track to the inhibit switch & ingintion switch.

Auto doesnt need earth as its bolted to the motor

Good luck

I have only connected the gear shifter a couple of days ago. Nothing had changed from one day to the next. Re above nothing is wired in yet that is next but not being wired in cout that stop it. Lights go, in park was done by hand. Didn't want to remove the starter motor until cover all other bases.

Cheer for input

Just reading a bit more the car wouldn't have coming from a manual. If it doesn't have one should it still just start or do I need to put one on to make it start.

Step 1: Do you own a Multimeter?
Step 2: Buy a multimeter.

Check for 12v at the starter solenoid.

Confirm wiring continuity from solenoid to ignition switch.

The purple wire is your friend.

Hi there, okay jacked the whole car up and made sure park is I place. I gave the solenoid a bash and it very slowly wound over. Had movement. Then I put the battery out of my ute in so battery is fully charged. It currently has no grunt to turn the motor over. I also put a wire from the battery to the solenoid and not go. Just tapped wire on

Have you tried rotating the engine with a bar/ratchet to make sure it isn't seized or anything like that?
