I have the parts manual but cant post a pic from it.

Page 278, item 25, shows a spring as listed on page 279. This spring pushes the rack yolk into mesh with the pinion.

Mine has 1 concaved/convex spring washer in this area.

Wear marks indicate that there should be 2 opposed washers?

Part No. VS11203

Just want to know if it is indeed a single spring or concaved spring washers?

I'd be very keen to see a write up on a rack rebuild & what parts you find are best, & how difficult it was & tools needed ect, if you wouldn't mind ? Gary.

This rack is a "prototype" rebuild as parts were missing (see above) and some shims had been removed and discarded along the way. I have had to cut 2 shims so far.

This rack is out of my car which is off the road.

It will be fitted to a mates car whose rack has "issues" as well.

Wondering if these old racks could be rebuilt by a steering type place these days?...or if they would just look at you with a puzzled look?

We use a place down in Sydney to do our rebuilds.

Had two done last week.

Always come out perfect.

Nothing wrong with mine (I think) Grant..but like all? these old things, you get that degree or so of play each side of centre when sitting in the shed.( i.e. steering wheel turns, wheels dont)

I sometimes ponder if that is correct...

I would be keen to see how you go. Mines pretty tight but could always be better.

So this rack was fitted but it wont self centre properly. I have modified the left rack end bush to accept an available bush but it's too tight.

I'll tighten up the exchange rack and refit it then play more with this mod.....................That could take a month or 2.

What I have learned is the manual specs are merely a guide on these old racks.

Don't know about LJ/LC but I just got a changeover rack for the LX from Super Steer (Wonga Park) Melbourne.  He does a lot of old cars and wouldn't surprise if he does LJ/LC.  Cheers Ron

The shop manual is also incorrect re this part and other bits too.
