I am getting to the final legs of a restoration and can't seem to get the indicators to work, I had replaced the Flasher unit but still no joy, any ideas of what to check next?

G'day Ian,

Starting with the absolute basics, blinkers work with the IGN key in either the accessory or ignition positions, reverse lights work only in the ignition position.

So first up turn on the ignition, make sure the blinker stalk switch is off (centre position), select reverse gear and confirm whether both rear indicators come on? That isolates about half of the wiring as the reverse lights run off a separate fuse.

If that works, disconnect the flasher can and check you have power to the blue wire with the key on, if so then you can rule out an old two-pin flasher unit problem by simply bridging the two wires, the blinkers should then work (they won't flash, but they should work)?

If none of the above works, chances are the problem is in the steering column, either the connector/wiring, or the stalk switch itself?
