Just brought a lx 4 door shell no tags only chassis number being try to get it for the last 25 years finally got it old bugger assures me
it is not stolen can anyone tell me what it s thank you

ALX003937M is the threethousandninehundredandthirtyseventh LX Torana chassis built at the Dandenong assembly plant.

 

I'll guess March 1976 build date?

It should be around Mar '76 compliance date, but unless you have any other numbers (like the VIN or even original engine number), there's not much else to tell?

I only have rego , VIN and engine number, I haven't been to look at the car yet.

That is the Chassis number, not the VIN. Toran's dont actually have a VIN as such. 

 

Pretty early model LX though, 253.

I sort of thought that about the vin but it's hard to keep up with what people refer to it as

The thin skinny plate is referred to as a VIN. But that will have a different number on it compared with the chassis number you have listed.

its a long stretch but you may find that number like i did. Assuming your radiator support panel is original and the same production line procedures where adhered to, I found that number written on the left front of radiator support panel, on the bare metal after I used paint stripper to remove the paint .
