Couldn't find any thread on requirements for prep and painting VHT onto Holden motors.
Do I need to prime or just spray straight onto the bare clean casting?

My buddy always uses white primer before he sprays his Holden reds
some use grey as a primer

I've seen it used with no primer and it's been fine

I'm glad this has come up. I've been wondering if you prime it, do you have to use a fire/heat  rated primer?  Cheers Ron

Its an alkalide resin enamel so no real need for a primer.

White will certainly help under red or yellow, again not a primer just buy a tin of white and spray it with that first as white covers better than red, 1 can of white plus 1 can of red will cover more area and look better than 4 cans of red.

Very expensive but very convenient, like most pressure packs.

VHT engine enamels always were shit paint for coverage. Holts Dupli-colour was far superior to VHT. If it is true VHT have taken over Dupli-colour I hope they haven't lowered the standard of that product.

I spray VHT direct to the cast iron block, thermo housing, oil pump and head. Rocker cover, cover plates, timing case cover I etch prime first.
Cheers
