Hi all, in particular Dave, I'm hoping that someone can post up some photos of the heater box mod gmh did to fix the cable bind I've heard of, my friend is playing around with his heater mechanisms atm & would a description of the mods done please, looking forward to the replies, Gary.

If its any help.Marty beefed up to a thicker
guage wire to stop it from bending.

Im putting my box in as i speak and

the dr flap mechanism took some doing .lyimg
on back with handbrake digging in you all
cramped up....

Lost 2 nuts down the back of the vinyl
flooring..they're frOcking staying there..

Hi Gary, I got some wire from a lawn mower shop, it was slightly thicker than genuine but still fitted the sheath.  Made up a jig for bending the wire to look original and it works way better than expected.

This is all I have,  can't remember what corners I filed but its' easy to work out.

I did Marty's upgrade to the heater control cable recently and it was a big improvement over my old kinked cable. If you do this modification make sure that the loop you make on the ends is off to the same side as the tab for screws, otherwise you'll have to try to twist it around later.

I'd be interested to know what GMH did to improve the situation and when in 73 this came into effect, after July when my car was made I assume.

The mod is kind of what Marty did but not so severe. November 1973 was when the modified parts went into production and the dealers were asked to check the control functions of customers cars as they came in for service and perform the modifications, if required, at no cost to the customer regardless of whether in or out of warranty. This was because the heater demist function is the requirement of an ADR.

I sympathise with the unfortunate mechanic's that got lumped with having to remove and reinstall the heater boxes.

^^^ lol, I'd rather R & R an LC/LJ heater box than perform any major repair works in the engine bay of most late model compact front wheel drives.
