cutting guards front

Just wondering 

i am up to drilling holes for flares  i realise i have to cut back to fit back wheels [so they dont scuff out] 

but the front guards look odd=

when flare is fitted bolted on and screws in place the bottom of the guard seems to curl under ? to cut or to bend out 

and if i cut would car still be valuble like i mean will the guards looks funny what do you all think and do

 it just looks dangerous to me for the wheels

Cut along the red line drawn, but curve it froward towards the base of the guard, front spoiler is going to cover it and you need to put a couple of self tappers into the flare and inside guard.

With the front guards I would cut away pretty much everything that's covered by the flare / spoiler, basically leave just enough material to bolt the flare to.

 

If you're worried about keeping some strength in the guards you can weld a length of 1/8" steel rod or similar around the cut edge of the wheel arch, which will help from cutting the tyres too.

From memory mine is cut just below the bolt holes all around the top and folded back on itself and the bottom front corner is cut away as i have marked the photo

Like the other's have said cut it & dress it forward, as for the gaurd up near the bolt holes as Andrews stated, you will probably cut about 1" down from the bolts & remove that section at least where the tyre will go up & down including on the full lock position if that makes sense.

I normally just cut a little less and use it to bend a flange outward to meet the flare. Gives a nice smooth edge and stops the guard from getting too floppy.

Agree, that's also how they were done on the L34 and A9X's.

i cant see your photos they are pictures of clocks ? when i clicked it they took me to purchasing photobucket ? i thought it was for free anyway

Hi Shelley, there's dramas with photo bucket atm, hence the thread on it. However i think someone was trying to steer you towards the sticky called "I'll show you how to cut gaurds ect" it's all about flare fitting on lh lx ect. Should help you out combined with the great comments in this thread, Gary.

Sorry Shelly you'll see clocks everywhere now as the photo bucket hosting site has screwed the world over. So most of those nice pictures on our forums will disappear. My picture was just showing where on my car that whole corner was cut off behind the flare.

yeah thanks now on my photobuckets pictures all mine are clocks and i payed 39.75 for a yearly usage ? why i dont know it said if i dont i will loose all pics i did once ... so i payed ... well this morning im seeing clocks on mine as well "is it a scam " cause it didnt seem to work with me either BUT the money has gone to paypal lol ill do a dispute
