I'm going to have a go at cleaning the original carpet out of the SS and wonder if anyone has suggestions on what to use and what to avoid. The backing is quite brittle on the front section and I already need to try and repair a couple of tears so I guess it's not a simple clean.

Also, it's interesting that the colours are different even when you look at the unfaded sections and the matching GM tags.

Any help is much appreciated.

Cheers,

Liz :)

Apologies for my '80s carpet that is in the background.

Hi Liz Danny here. Did you find them under the carpet? If you did that's awesome. Sorry can't help you with the cleaning maybe a gentle steam clean would get the job done.

Danny

Hi Liz...never had to clean carpet...as normally have black interior...so cant help there.
On a side note though...its interesting that those production tags for the carpet are 100% readable after 41 years...but we have progressed so far now, that your typical big barn hardware store receipt is unreadable after 41 days! Lol

Hi Danny, how's things? Yeah, tags are stapled to the underside of the carpet pieces, pretty stoked about that and even more keen to clean it up and put it back in the car. Might go and see what the local carpet place has and maybe try something on a bit that can be covered. Lots of cleaning products have pretty harsh chemicals and bleach etc so need to be careful.

How are things with you? You doing a hatch up? I've entered the XU1 in Toranafest so maybe I'll catch you there :)

Cheers,

Liz :)

Hi Col,

So true, yeah have to scan receipts into the computer before they fade, pain in the arse. The tags on the carpet are carboard too so they even made tags to last back in those days.

Cheers,

Liz :)

Very well thanks Liz.

Yes I am my l31 ss is in for sandblast at the moment pretty nervous to see what comes back haha. Sounds good I will try and make it there with Mick and hopefully catch up

Thanks for the tip, I'll check out the steam cleaning without chemicals.

Would be great to see you and Mick. It's a great day out too, so worth the trip.

I remember I was a bit nervous when the mechanic sent me his report on the SS but it came back as being much better than average, as you know :)

Cheers,

Liz :)

Haha no engine rebuild needed. It actually went very quick and ran perfectly when we had it. I was surprised at how well it all went being 40 plus years of age! Awesome

Yep, you're spot on. The guy who's doing the resto bought an SL/R for his wife, has a 308 in it too but he said that mine is much quicker!

Cheers,

Liz :)
