Hi all,

Re clutch kits, what is the go these days? What's OK and not so OK? Are HCB any good or is Excedy better? I currently run a one-tonner in my six cylinder LC, but motor is getting rebuilt, may as well throw a new clutch in. I know in the past the XU-1 clutch was damn heavy, whereas the one-tonner feels lighter.

Look forward to your help.

Speaking personal preference only, i like the xtreme clutch. That's what I'll be running, have 1 in my t56 daily, brilliant to drive with my ss has a exedy & it won't be replaced with an exedy, if that explains my thoughts on them. Or you could get a npc clutch.

I use an AP not as heavy as one might think, my 6 will never bust it. Regards

Have run an Xtreme in the past and was happy with it. I run a clutch industries heavy duty at the moment and it does not slip.

I see your are in Sydney, give John or Scott at Western Clutches a call 02 96231233, he'll more than likely supply a clutch that suits for less money that at most parts stores.

Another question, running the XU1 type or the one-tonner type? I am still running original rat trap linkages and don't want to start breaking linkages (again).

Xu1 type mate, i think a lot of issues in the breakages can be due to incorrect adjustment or worn linkages & parts. I've set them up to factory settings, with good condition parts in the past & it makes a world of difference. Gary.

Most failures are due to worn parts. Regular lubrication, esp if the car is a daily can help the parts to live. Biggest problem is the pull rod from the pedal to the relay lever. No amount of regular maintenance will prevent one of the bullet heads at either end of the rod from suffering a fatigue failure. And for anyone that is interested the pull rods on the HT/HG Holden are no stronger in their construction than the LC/LJ's.
