It will depend on how much centrifugal advance you have inside the new distributor, the size of the camshaft & how much compression your engine has.
Having said that, if your engine is basically stock & the distributor has similar advance figures to a VC/VH dissy (which is what they came from) then start with 6 to 8 degrees initial timing at idle, with the vacuum line temporarily disconnected.
Listen very careful for pinging under varying rev ranges & engine loads. If you're game, try a few extra degrees. but be conservative & listen for pinging at all times.
If you find that you're not getting anywhere, make certain that your harmonic balancer hasn't slipped & that the zero degree timing mark is indeed TDC. Also get a pro to check your new "Bosch clone" on a distributorgraph to see what it really does have inside.
