Hi gents.i have a couple facias and 3 lj
underdashes i want to paint in black 60 or
in other words 60% satin black acrylic and
have been to couple paint shops and have
asked them to make some up but they
reckoned they would end up making 4ltrs of
it and a couple hours later trying to get it right even with the code and numbers

04149

Dulon formula

tinter 05431 setting 429
03038 500

Are they pissweak or is it just me..surely
they could make it up ^^^ without making
bloody heaps of it..

Have any of you chaps got some made up in
an aerosol can or even in 1/2 liter mixed..

Cheers maz

Im not 100% sure about the formula as all the facias I have seen have been raw plastic.

"60% satin" to me means just regular satin black, ie 60% gloss.

Flat 0% gloss, Matt 30% Gloss, Satin 60% gloss, gloss 100% gloss......

Regular satin black is avaliable in basically any size tin and readily available in a pressure pack from paint shops, the big green shed of snags, superjunk, autobahsbrah ripco etc.

Sorry if im way off the mark?

Hahahaha..yeah i got some from one paint
store and his was abit duller..ive done a
couple of them using hsc up in qld he mixed
first couple and spot on but nxt ones he
#@$^%& up blaming the matting agent?

I didnt look at superjunks haha but i did
ask them to mix it but said we can mix it
from the tag but thats it..

I dont understand why the dickheads didnt
say its 60% gloss and we can mix it no
worries.

Does the colorbond look like one of these
Bruce...the middle one is from hsc in qld
bottom one is spose to b same from hsc
Top is satin black the guy at paint shop.
All using same grey primer..i have cleaned
top and bottom one 3-4 times lol as they are
Either too flat or too friggen shiny..
All i wanted to do was sell to make a little
money that will go towards buying these
mawers i want..i reckon ive spent 150+ on
shit black and still havnt got what i want
even showing them the middle dash lol..
Im definetly not painting fascias with that
top crap black...

Hard to say looks like there is  a lot of light on them , possibly a little less shine than the middle one .

Use a proper automotive paint, that colourbond paint is crap & the colour drops right out after about a year, the middle 1 looks about right judging by a photo. Provided the paint shop is using the same flattening base, the mixes should be very close to each other, it is a bit of a time consuming job adding the flattening base to the correct weight, but that's how you get it accurate. Technically 250 ml is the minimum mix for accuracy. Get some mixed in a tin & just mix thin & spray if you're using acrylic. There's heaps of paint shops down the bottom of Australia, someone could mix it for you.

Yeah forget the cheap crap, just get a good brand, i meant to say if you get say 1 litre of ppg with flattening base added in acrylic, just mix it well each time & thin it it as you go probably wasn't really clear before, i think it's 50, 50 with there's in acrylic, but i basically never use acrylic paint, as you know it will be on the label anyway.

Hi maz, most panel shops have acrylic paint still, surely there's 1 of them near by & a painter can mix up a litre of paint for you ? I would have thought if you pay them for the time they could help you out ! Gary.

As a reference I have been using Motorspray bumper black to clean up plastic parts on the ute.  I'm not after a u beaut finish but I reckon they come up ok.  Can't tell about durability at this point.  One note, it does tend to clog up a bit if you are impatient like me and try to get too much down at once.  Cheers Ron

Yeah im going to get 1ltr gloss black and 1tr
of matting agent and mix it me bloody self
Lol..

Ill probably start with 1/2 ltr gloss 500ml
And add say add 250 50% then dab that on a
Piece of metal then add it in 10ml from there
writing down how much im adding and testing

I will use a sringe to measure at end as my scales dont read point 1 etc.

That looks pretty close Cook just needs a
little bit more gloss.

If your only doing the under dash panel , I did mine and there is not much light on it and I don't think a bit either way would make much difference .

Just take the latest mix you got from HSC and slowly add PPG Midnight Black to it until you get the desired gloss level.
