I've got a new repro one and feels and works well. Just doesn't look like the original ones.

Got it about 4 years ago from Rare Parts in Welshpool. They only had a limited number of them and they were about the same price as reconditioning the original one. There was no certification from memory and I'll look up the price and post a pic soon.
I have a genuine one as well and will show difference. Give me a few hours.
Cheers

This is my repo unit, probably chinese made, looks similar to above pic.
The other dirty rack on pavers is the genuine one, it has two inspection plates and a couple of other slight differences. It's mainly the one inspection plate that gives them away, I know I was pissed when I got it home and found the difference. They tell you it's the same in the shop but some people don't notice the little things or care about them.

A member in my Torana club had his genuine rack rebuilt and still wasn't happy. He bought the repro one like mine and said it felt better and more responsive. He drove his car harder than I drive mine so gives you a better idea of their quality/feel.

Thanks Marty.
It's interesting to hear that your mate thought the repro rack felt better than the reconditioned original.
Might be the way to go.
Cheers.

I've kept my original rack which I'll get rebuilt and may swap onto my LJ so it looks correct. I think it may come down to how flogged out the genuine one is before reconditioning.

Be careful with these reproduction racks, the case hardening is poor quality & wears very quickly, I pulled one apart a few weeks ago to repair.

Has anyone any knowledge or purchased one of these reproduction steering racks ?

By memory, back in 2017, I actually made contact with Daryl (his contact details are in the advert for the repo rack). He told me the racks were no longer available and he couldn't remove the my105 advert for the repo rack as it was posted by his former business partner of which he had a fallout with. He was exploring the option of having the rack & pinion made overseas ( china / india) which i assume didn't happen. Post#14 pictures say it all...............don't touch them.

Were these repro racks made in Australia? Surely not for that low price?

If you find one with boots intact you'll be half way there.
