So I bought a Rare Spares ignition barrel (Part No: SL1003) and it basically is no good for a LH Torana.

Has anyone been able to successfully fit one of these?

Because of the white plastic tag protruding from the barrel I'm not able to turn the key all the way anti-clockwise when the barrel is fittet to the coffee pot.

Another thing that could cause trouble is the size of the raised sector at the back of the barrel.

The original barrel has a much longer raised sector as compared to the rare spares one.

Does anyone make a barrel that fits?

I bought mine from Kingo Country. But the first one fitted but jammed. The 2nd one is going ok so far.

Yes, I had to fit the barrel with the key in the on position so that the plastic tag would drop into the barrel but then I couldn't move the key to the off position because as the key rotates anticlockwise the tag wants to raise up again. If I force it I'm likely gunna brake something.

There is so many different shapes on the Rares 1 compared to the gmh 1, who's the clown who says yeah they look just like oem, absolutely crap imo ! If a company wants to sell & for a good price, then the quality needs a lot of improvement. R & d need a major shake up !

I don't understand how something can be sold for a purpose that it simply isn't suitable for.

This barrel will not work in a LH Torana coffee pot so I'm not sure why it's listed as suitable for early LJ through LX.

The picture for the Kingswood country one seems to be closer to OEM than the Rares one but it's a 1 1/2 hour drive each way for me to go look before I buy one.

I'm not sure what to do at this stage.

That'll be the first step I guess.

I can't be the first one to be sold one of these who has a LH, I wonder what they did.

I think I need to get in contact with one of the product development people about this. Though I suspect the best I can hope for is money back, not a functional lock.

I agree. I ordered a SL1003 ignition barrel and the nice sales person provided one. Rare Spares list that part number for Torana application but it simply isn't appropriate for that

The keys it came with have "For GM Cars" stamped on them. I wonder if Rares have simply taken some American GM aftermarket part that looks close and decided to list it for Australian cars.

Send Edan on here from Rares a PM

Good idea, will do.

I just got my hands on an ignition barrel from Resto Country and can confirm they fit.

I'll post up some pics with the differences later.

So the lesson is, if you have a LH Torana, don't buy ignition barrels from Rares.

Just q quick update on this one.

It looks like Rares have been supplied the wrong part for their Ignition Barrel only kit, where as if you were to purchase the fill lock kit, you'd be supplied the correct ignition barrel along with the other locks.

They're looking into this so that it can be rectified.

Many thanks to Edan at Rares for the feedback.

I fitted one of these and in frustration I ended cutting off the plastic tab. Works fine now.
