After some help re Correct Radiator for an Early 72 XU1. Adelaide Build.

Think these were a Heavy Duty radiator with extra fins.

I understand they have there own part numbers but is this on the radiator somewhere and if so where are they.

Also supposed to be a date code but where is that stamped.

What else is different and what is the correct Fan shroud. Have seen various types.

Some pics would be great.

Thanks in advance.

Out of curiosity what actually distinguishes an xu1 radiator from a standard one. I just had a look at a torana radiator ive got which is stamped H2, what does this actually refer to? Thanks

Thanks for the info guys,

The radiator has a J2 mark, Which is Sept 1972.

The car was Built in Feb 72. Interestingly the car also has a June 72 dated Head.

As per other comments what else distinguishes a XU1 or Heavy Duty radiator.

Is there a part no. on them somewhere??

No mate, no part number on them. Different in looks & a assembly code sticker when new, so there wasn't really a need for the part number. 14 fins per inch. As for the shroud or fan gaurd, Anthony has posted the top of 2 xu1 radiators have a look at them and others & you should work it out.

So the difference between the standard radiator and the XU1 is that the XU1 has 14 fins per inch, so the standard radiator must have less fins. Did the XU1 radiator have a 3 or a 2 row core?

regards

That's not all actually. The XU-1 radiator has 3/8" between the vertical tubes and the standard ones have 1/2" between the tubes. Over the width of the radiator, this equates to approx 30-40 more vertical tubes. The XU-1 radiator also has 5/8" tube cores and the standard has 1/2" tube cores. The 14FPI is the least effective difference between the cores.

Cheers

Another difference is overflow hose held on with clips on side not metal prongs bent out from pressing of radiator straps.

Thanks for posting photos of your heavy duty , xu1 top radiator dated tanks.
Is there any chance that you could post a couple of photos of how the overflow pipe runs on your original Holden xu1 radiators ?

This is a late HQ or early HJ  still with the overflow hose attached to the back of the radiator not down the side.

Anthony thanks for the information I can see what you mean in this photo.
Holden was still running the over flow on back of radiator as late as the HJ model
