I am setting up my doors and gettting gaps right etc on my Hatch and want to try and cheat a little to save myself re installing and then completely removing again all the door internals including glass.

Setting the gaps etc without the weight of all the internals will lead to issues. (Door sags with extra weight)

Anyone know or done it before where they get an approximate weight of glass, latches and all internals and just put weights inside door to replicate?

I'm guessing between 7-10kgs but that's all it would be, a guess.

If someone has done this and knows it would save me a bunch of time.

Thanks in advance.

It won't sag when closed as the gaps are set by the location of the striker. No need to worry about the weight.

Eww, I hope that comment was tongue-in-cheek, Daz?

The latch/striker should have absolutely no vertical weight on it whatsoever, in fact I would recommend not even fitting the strikers until the doors are properly aligned, same goes for bonnets, boots, hatches or any other kind of opening panels.

The only weight on the strikers should be lateral (across the car) against the compression of the rubbers/seals/stoppers. Otherwise you'll have a very clunkily closing panel.

It wasn't tongue in cheek 😬

I'm definitely less fussy than most. Brains wired too practical for that...the end result is more important than the journey travelled to my type I suppose. Being a mechanic it's probably how it needs to be otherwise I'd never finish a job. Dunno, hadn't given it much thought before!

I'm sure I've got a pair of complete doors (incl. glass, internals etc.) somewhere too, but I neither have an accurate set of scales nor a spare month to dig them out.

I always planned on buying a set of corner weight scales and weighing everything as I went along but somehow never got a round tuit.

I actually thought Heath would've been all over this subject?

You could just put all the glass and mechanism in the door without installing them, that couldn't take longer than a couple of minutes, just a thought.

Peter UC, logical thinking.  My guess is that he hasn't got all the components yet otherwise he could weigh them.  Cheers ron
