I have looked at a 1978 UC that is for sale, I am concerned about the 202 engine number as there is a large gap between the first letter "X" and the rest of the engine number. Is this gap period correct ?

Looks like a ZL block to me and the X is prolly from a machinist or something?

XZL is a legitimate engine no. prefix for a UC 202 (auto) engine block. It is late number, probably a 1979 build, the earlier engines were prefixed XQL, up until they reached xx999999.

The X is manually stamped at the assembly plant, while the QLxxxx was stamped earlier, at the engine plant.

The HZ 202 (auto) & UC 202 (auto) engines were identical, so they added the X to signify that it originated in a Torana.
