hi, i  have an 73 lj torana and i am looking for the best way to remove the wiper washer switch and the little pump behind it. when i pump the water the switch stays in and wont come out. i have looked behind the dash but cant see where to unscrew anything... there is not a lot of room there i admit, its a bit squishy to see anything

thanks

Some have 3 screws holding the back part onto the main switch part but Some of them are sealed and don't come apart

There is a fastener in the side of the knob that holds it on the switch.
Remove the knob, and then use some circlip pliers to remove the nut on the front of the switch.
Switch can then be removed from behind the dash.
Take wires and hose off.

I converted my pump to ecectric by removing the diaphragm and installing a switch.
Fitted a water bottle with inbuilt electric pump.

If you have the 2nd type LJ wiper washer switch with the removable rear plate and want to rebuild it then Rare Spares make a replacement diaphragm for the LJ washer switch but not the valves.

One way valves from an aquarium shop can be fitted to the hoses connected to the switch/pump.

Thanks Dave, I never new that part was available, it's a shame that it's not a complete kit. Not that I ever need to use mine anyway.

Tip: before pull the hoses off the back of the switch drain the washer bottle, otherwise you'll be looking for a quick place to stick the hose to catch the water as you're lying upside-down with your head under the dash. I found this out myself as a teenager and let's just say I'm glad that I had clean water in the washer bottle.
