The iconic Chevrolet Camaro muscle car will fill the V8 void in Holden showrooms next year, almost five years ahead of schedule — and ahead of the next generation flagship Corvette sports car due in 2020.

Holden is preparing to import the Camaro SS and have it converted to right-hand-drive in Melbourne by its longstanding performance-car partner Holden Special Vehicles.

Although the Mustang and Camaro compete head-on for price in the US, the Chevrolet is likely to be at least $20,000 dearer than the Ford.

Camaro pricing is yet to be confirmed but dealers have been given an indicative cost of between $80,000 and $90,000 on the road — about the same as a HSV Clubsport — with a choice of six-speed manual or eight-speed auto.

Dodge is also said to be considering building the next generation Charger SRT sedan and Challenger coupe in right-hand-drive from the factory

It is HSV that is getting the Camaro, not Holden. It was Ryan Walkinshaw who organised it.

Bit out of reach of the average man though. At least any old hill billy yobbo could waltz down to the Holden dealership and pick up a V8 Commodore. Or are they only available in an SS these days?

.... but not a 2 door.

Yeah, they'll have to wait for the Charger if they want a V8 4 door.

Yet you can go to a Ford dealer and get a Mustang which was built RHD from the start for 20 grand cheaper, Mustang and camaro are almost the same price in the states, go Holden, looking after your customers

But the runaway success of the Ford Mustang — the Camaro’s arch rival — has seen Holden pull out all stops to get the Chevrolet into local showrooms as soon as possible.

Shut the gate the horse has bolted!

I can recall when Holden was discussing plans to bring the Chev Volt to Aus, it was at a time when our dollar was either on par with the USD or possibly even higher.

The stupid thing was going to be $60,000 AUD, yet you could buy the same product in the US for $30,000 USD.....

The price point made absolutely no sense.

I know some that wouldn't buy a Chev either.  The comment was aimed at the slow wittedness of GM, I recall they were talking about bringing a RHD Corvette to Aus. and scrapped the plan, thinking the market wouldn't take to it, heads are probably rolling right now.

OK....here's your chance boys.

I'm looking for investors ( astute).

I''m setting up a badge factory ,and need  $$  support.

We will be making Holden Lion badges, that all the bro's will want to put on their Chev Camaros.

We cant loose, its just the reverse of the Chev badge on a Commodore phenomenon.

I'd say this has single-handedly turned many Holden fans off Chevs.

Getting back to the short-sightedness of development teams at GM.

Previous gen. Camaro was based off Commodore platform that could do LHD & RHD but they didn't do any in RHD.

Latest gen. Camaro back to LHD only.

Mustang will be winning for a while yet.

You have to wonder who is piloting the Holden ship? Are they as out of touch as politicians? Or just doing what the vocal minority want?

Its not a gm/holden factory offering its just another expensive lhd-rhd conversion . Its being done by HSV who next year would have very little to sell. Its just like http://www.crossover...-2018-australia

or http://corvetteclini...ndex.php/camaro

or http://www.performaxint.com.au/
