Hi, I am having new tyres fitted to some old rims for my '78 UC Torana, tomorrow, and I (urgently) need to know the maximum 'backspace' I have to work with.

Can someone please tell me what that is?

You'll be reasonably safe with 5.5"

Thanks 76lxhatch. These 'new' rims fit well within that. Cheviot 6JJ x 14. (Backspace 4.5 in.)

On my 78 UC Sedan, I am putting 215 x 65 x 14 all round.
