Had to pull the head off again recently and am looking to re use the gasket. I know they are not designed to be reused but I know others have done so with success. Its a race series gasket and it was only on the motor running for about 15 mins total. It came off clean and looks good still.
I am thinking of using hylomer spray to aid reuse and wonder what people think?
I paid good money for the thing and I like that it gives me more comp and better quench than a standard gaskets.
If it doesn't work oh well, I'll pull it and fit a new gasket but as I said just wondering about the use of hylomer?

If it helps, I just reused my Cometic head gaskets after spraying them with Hylomar. Was told by a reputable engine builder it can be done. Not sure of the brand you have used though.

Don't most people just use the copper head gasket spray (can form) mainly on steel gaskets. Gary.

Hylomar is a great sealant. Originally made by Rolls Royce as their gasket sealant because many of their parts ar a fine machined finish with only Hylomar as th gasket itself.

Has anyone tried it on a reused composite gasket to aid resealing? as mls and copper gaskets are fairly different.

Ive re-used gaskets before, but to be honest, if it doesn't seal and you need to take off the head (again)- do you think that would be a piss off? If yes= just buy a new MLS gasket... Just my experience tells me that a penny saved today can cost you many hours or more dollars later.

EDIT- I just looked up the current price of MLS gaskets... Wow... I had no idea they had gotten that expensive... some are charging $385 FMD... my copper head gasket was cheaper  :<_<:

Yeah they are pricey. I've had this friggen motor in and out and the head off so many times recently, once more wouldn't phase me too much.
Any negatives using an MLS? If the race series doesn't reseal I may consider one. If not I'll just use a graphite gasket I guess.

I've had good results using a graphite gaskets, that's what I'm currently using on my engine, only problem, it's hard to find a .040" one the same as an ACL race series, most are .060".

Yeah so have I but as you say, they just don't make them thin enough for my liking. Hopefully this ACL one will reseal.
