Hi,

Just fitted a 3 core to the track car, and the clearance is about 7mm.

A little worried in case it hits?. i.e. engine moves forward under heavy braking etc?./ engine mount flex?

Looking at the car, the gearbox is hard bolted to the x member, so I wonder just how much forward/ aft movement of the engine is possible anyway.?

Put some tabs onto the engine mounts to limit movement forward. May be a waste of time?

Anyone had issues/ experience with this stuff?

Thanks

p.s. thanks Agent 34 for your pic.

What model car Col? I would have thought an LJ would have plenty of room. If the engine mounts are good and the gearbox solid mounted then I can't see you having a problem unless you hit something fairly hard.

Ta Laurie,

LJ , Blue 202. see pic.

Just the addition with of the 3 core radiator swallows up all the room.  Looked at mounting it in front of the rad. support panel, rather than the normal behind the rad. support panel...but would have meant hacking the panel..not keen on that.

p.s. knew I should have moved the dog before mowing!  lol

A German Shepard with a reverse mullet.

I have "fanned" a couple of radiators in bush bombs over the years, but only after hitting another car or the tabletop on the motocross track.

So is the white LJ the same car as the yellow one?

Thanks LB...yeah...no engine fan here either. 1 x thermo  on the font pushing air thru.

The car never overheats anywhere...except going up the mountain at Bathurst, so with that event on again in a few weeks, i needed to do something.

I guess theres not too many tracks that are up hill like that, where 100% throttle is on for such a long time.

Thanks for the info.

Ill measure the clearance between my bolts and my radiator- but from memory mine are about 7mm or so... they seem to close but the radiator was cheap so I have 'risked' it and have had zero issues for 2 years. No sign of them kissing the rad.

Ill measure and report back.

Maybe look into button head bolts Col that
use hex key to get a little more clearance.

Cheers maz

Thanks......and you too Maz.

The problem is really me just being a tight arse and buying a V8 radiator, that has the side brackets welded too far forward for the little cars. If they were cut off and tigg'd  back on, could easily pick up 20mm I reckon.

Hopefully the engine mount mod will eliminate any chance of a coming together....I'll take the orig. radiator an a few spare engine mounts in case a return to normal is reqd.

Thanks guys.

Just to close the loop on my question....

2 days, about 36 laps, of Bathurst, flat chat = all good.

No issues.

Cooling vastly improved.

No evidence of the engine mount allowing much forward movement either.

All good.
