Has anyone had a XU-1 style muffler modified with larger inlets and outlets. Say 2.25" in, 2" out, but same body size as original? I don't need to worry about the muffler looking original, but I would prefer the thing to look similar. Or should I just get my 2.25 exhaust turned down to 2" and stick with a XU-1 repo? Some time ago, somebody mentioned that he thought these mufflers were restrictive. Are they really? Alternatives are only 14" long.

Chris, the style of the muffler is going to be restrictive to an extent, but how tuff is the engine, if you where really concerned about restriction, you'd probably go for a Hooker aerochamber muffler. I wouldn't say they're super quiet though. Xu1 muffler should be fine i reckon. Gary

The engine has had a bit of work. 202 Blue block, triple 1.75 CD's, CT 35 640A-107 solid cam, 1.6 rockers, so 0.52" lift. Happy to stay with a XU1 muffler, just wondering about alternatives with twin tips. Thanks Gary. I will look into the Hooker.

I think it's only the hooker max flow, that has 2 tips, quite different from xu1 though.

I'm doing this in the near future also - Magnaflow looks like a good option!

Hm9c's are fitted. Exhaust shop want to have words with hm in a dark alley somewhere and apart from costing me a kidney to have it all fitted up its all good. They modded the headers in a few spots to clear so the car didnt have to be cut/shut at all. They have done a nice job and very happy what they did with the muffler aswell. Has definitely picked up some torque and horsepowers

You could try, tuff car parts or engine master Australia.
