Hi fellow Torana nuts,

Does anyone have any specs dimensions or details how to make up some roof lining bars for an Lx hatch. I know it would have to be spring steel, but I just need sizes, shapes, cheers.

First post, welcome to the forum, Martin!

It's been a while since I've installed a headlining so don't quote me on this, but, I have a feeling they're not all the same width (they get shorter toward the rear), hopefully someone else can confirm?

Plus I think they've got a bent part on either end which has to lock into the hole/slot on each side of the cant rail. And I dare say even a millimeter or two variation in their overall length would be enough to make the difference between being taught and the most annoying rattling sound you will ever hear!

It may be easier just to buy an old headlining complete with bows, it probably wouldn't cost too much as it doesn't matter what condition the material is in, and that way you get a pattern to sew up a new one if you're handy with the old Singer!

I got the same idea a year ago and I have sets of LX and LC ones here I can copy.

I couldn't find the correct diameter steel rod from anywhere and gave up at that point.

There was fairly close size but wasn't exactly correct.

I hadn't actually worked out what grade or temper of steel would work either.

Thanks guys,

It would be good if you could send some sketches with measurements or something

I am very handy with things like that and I know a couple of places if I have a bit of trouble.

I still have plenty of time but I haven't even seen any for sale.

Just had a look at my hatch ones which are still in old hood lining I ripped out  parts book shows the following for a hatch , 1 being the front

1 2823880

2 9936910

3 2823880

4 2813463

4 is the only one unique to a hatch 1,2,3 share same part numbers with sedan , 2 is just a thin piece of wire, others measure at 4.8mm

Each bar seems to be colour coded , my 1 and 3 have orange paint on them and the 4th is yellow but not sure its correct as doesn't seem to fit well.

Can anyone confirm what colour wire 4 is on a hatch?

Gents,

I have some in the garage but won't get to them until the weather cools down a bit.  I'm pretty sure I only have three but then again my hatch came with a sunroof so may be the reason why.  Let you know in a couple of days.  Cheers Ron

The hatch only has 3 thick bars1,3&4 in parts book, number 2 is just a piece of thin wire and is attached to spots along the roof brace that has the interior light on it. When you check your bars you should have 2 with orange paint and 1 with yellow

Martin, I found my rods and although I thought I had 3 I could only find 2. Here's some photos.  You can see it's difficult to get some measurements but the smaller one measures about 1095mm and the larger 1145mm excluding the turned up ends.  The paint on mine is orange and white, although it may have been yellow at some stage.  Hope it helps.  Cheers Ron

PS rod diameters the same at 4.8-4.9mm
