Is that a Repro front air dam? Or were the SS's one piece?

The SS air dam is one piece Brad. I don't know who made this one. It had a white gel coat. I got it through a mate & it fitted with minimal rework.

What causes the hatches to rust at the hatch hinge area? How does the moisture and dust get in there to start the whole process?

As said its condensation but the biggest issue is its all bare metal in hinge area and C pillars, they are painted after assembly so if you can't see it then it has no paint on it.

And poor drainage, if you have to pull a C Pillar apart to rebuild it you can see that if moisture builds up it has nowhere to go. I drilled drain holes in mine and heaps of KBS and fish oil.

I really hope all this was done some time ago and you're just now posting the pics, otherwise the speed at which you work is puting everyone else here to shame!

Very nice job, not many bother burying the stripes under clear these days.

Andrew..all this was done starting mid last year. Just bringing it all up to speed with where it's at now.

I haven't been able to do much with the car as I had my shed build happening at the same time. See 'Shed Thread', I posted a few pics there.

I started this thread as a motivator for me as well as showing to others if it interests them.

The remainder of the restoation is up to me now..

The other set that came with the car; the chrome rings were good but a couple plastic centres were warped. They only had a few spring clips & I needed 32 of them.  Attached File  s-l1600 (8).jpg   82.49K   8 downloads  Attached File  s-l1600 (7).jpg   68.58K   8 downloads

I either got them from Rare Spares or Kingswood Country. It was a while ago now..

Thats almost pornographic.

Great job.

Question though.

Obviously no problem clearing over the stickers, but do you get an edge on the stickers or the blackouts?

Contemplating a method of attack for a bike tank Im playing with.

Rob, there is a soft slight raised edge on the stickers but nothing like a sticker-ed sharp edge.

The painted blackout edges are hardly noticeable by touch with the clear over. Depends upon how many layers of clear you want.

I didn't want to go too thick on the clear but you could, I guess, if you want edges to disappear.

I wanted to have the painted blackouts to closely match the accent stripes & get a more uniform contrast.

Looks good just keep an eye out on the stripe over time. The sticker will shrink under the clear. Happened to all the bikes I’ve owned with stickers cleared over.

I've had vinyl decals on my car for years & no sign of shrinkage or lifting but I'll keep an eye on it.

Could it be the clear sprayed over or the quality of the clear, you've used that could be the problem?

The car won't be weather exposed as much as daily cars so I'm confident it'll be ok.

It’s more so the vinyl shrinks. Say leave a piece of pvc tape out in the sun and watch it shrivel up.
