Hi, hoping someone here can help me out. I’ve got an lx sedan manual and the underdash harness has been eaten by something where it sits under the booster (was like that when purchased). I have found another harness yo purchase but it’s supposed to be from an auto. Question is can I still use it? I know there are a few differences but I’m no electrician by any means.

Pretty sure it will be usable without too many issues. Might need a jumper wire here and there to bypass auto switch.

I have been told I can put a kill switch between the ends of the purple wires but what do I do with the wiring for the kick down?

When you say under the booster do you mean in the engine bay? Or around that same area under the dash? How many wires have been eaten? What colours are they?

Yes where the under dash harness goes into the engine bay. Pretty much all of them are bare

I’m meaning can I use the auto one?

The kickdown wire doesn't go anywhere with a manual trans, just leave it disconnected as you won't have the kickdown switch on the accelerator pedal anyway.

You could put a kill switch in place of the inhibitor switch (purple wires) but the starter circuit is easily gotten around with a screwdriver so won't be that much of a deterrent. Still, every little bit helps I guess.

I'd be inclined to just cut/resolder new wires in. Even use the donor harness if you wish so it's the correct colours.

From memory they  are the same  main harness.  Only the patch   harness to  inhibitor/ reverse is different. Just make a bridge piece (or use your existing one) for the purple starter wires.  Green wires to reverse switch.  Orange kickdown wire on manual cars is there iirc, just taped to the harness and not used.

On the left side of your steering column on your exisiting harness, is the purple wires joined with a plug with loop wire already?

I could be wrong but till VNish crummidore, most holden harnesses were one main for the vehicle with add ons as required for specific accessories

FWIW, regarding the kill switch, my auto elec. hooked up a kill switch to the coil.  I don't understand electrics but he said this is a better way of running it and harder to start/bypass.  Cheers Ron

I don’t trust my soldering capabilities to patch that many wires as it is a real mess. Green wires are reverse switch on manual anyway aren’t they? I thought it was only the purple wires for neutral start and the orange kick down wires that differed.
