They were raw cast iron from memory.

I painted mine with POR15 cast iron paint. Looks amazingly real and has lasted 5 years without fail.  Love that stuff.

so when was the changeover to the ribbed case !!!!

my understanding that all lc with the all aussie were smooth case

Well draw filed the faces checked for cracker
Then painted with por 15 cast paint
Then cooked at 400f for 2 hours
( and still not tender )

Just saw your post re ribbed case, I sold an LC CK Xu-1 gearbox a while ago, it was a ribbed case dated July 71

I have seen 12 jul 1971 899 smooth case gearbox.
Maybe they had both types

KBS Rust Blast then they are ready for etch.  If you CRC them it will stop rust but then you have to clean it off to etch.

Bat I think Marty means that you can just hit it with the Rust blast straight off the bat (sorry, pun) and leave it till you hand over to the painter. Either way the wheels will have to be prepped, but either way will stop the rust film.

I reckon the painter will prefer rust blast on them rather than oil.

these were painted black straight on bare steel no under coat  :wtf:

Hi Bat,

Rust Blast is a metal treatment solution made by KBS. There are many other brands and names out there that stop the rust flash that occurs and leaves it ready for painting.

Be careful about storing the zinc on top of each other like that especially the gold zinc, or you will scratch the crap out of it. Handle it carefully for a while. Was the sway bar a signature ? & if so was it easy enough to get, could you please tell us the cost. Thanks, Gary.
