Any Shannons customers able to give feedback on claims they've made, customer service or if they are trustworthy with valuations?

I first contacted them 10 years ago and felt insulted by how non car enthusiast friendly they were. Today I tried again and to my surprise the kid actually asked me questions like if it had a 9" upgrade.

Just looking for some insurance advice.

Yeah I had issues a couple of years ago getting them to increase my agreed value but rang them this week and they were happy to do it.

Luckily I haven't had to make any claims.

Good thing is they do laid up cover and give you salvage rights too.

I have been with them for a few years now as I couldn't find any other Laid up insurers.  Fortunately no claims but can say they seemed genuinely interested and knowledgeable about cars.  Happy with the service and rates but I suspect you need to give them strong evidence if you wan't to get the highest $ coverage.  As above, I like the agreed value and salvage rights.  Note that if you are at a point where you get an unregistered permit to drive the car to get any work done, you need to change the policy.  I think it is called a restricted driving policy or something like that.  Cheers Ron

my Torana was damaged in cyclone Debbie last year,  I got a quote and gave shannons a call. they asked for the quote and a couple of photos and within 2 days the money was in my account.          i can,t complain about that. Also the excess was halved because it happened in a natural disaster.

Hi,

Have Toranas with them, never claimed. They seem receptive  to increased agreed value from time to time.

Have dailey's with them as well.....claimed last year. No problems, didn't debate anything, just got on with it and all good.

I see that CAMS now has a relationship with Famous Insurance and are promoting them.....however I dont know anything about them.

I to am with Shannons,  have pretty much all my Private stuff through them, all the cars the house and contents  etc etc

never had a claim on anything old,  but have had 2 at fault claims ( Mrs) on the statesman, and have had no hassles,  choice of repairer, blah blah  both times car has remained drivable, so they werehappy to schedule repairs during school holidays when it wasnt needed for school run etc, never an issue with them

I have a mate with an EH van though that is worth big dollars, and he struggled to get agreed value at a price he was happy with,  went to NRMA and value he wanted was half the price of shannons.

I've heard some horror stories about NRMA and their so-called "agreed value", although this was many years ago now so things may have changed (but I doubt it). They were happy to call it an agreed value policy and accept the premiums as such but when it came time to claim they argued and argued and wouldn't "agree" to the same value agreed to earlier. Plus you didn't used to be able to nominate yourself as the repairer and you may well find you don't get the option to buy back the written-off vehicle either?

Been with them for years, but like all forms of insurance, you only find out how good they are when you need to make a claim !

Been with Shannons for 14 years, 100% happy. My son smashed our VY ute into a tree on our street. Panel shop come around to my house and quoted but was written off. Had all the money in my account within 7 days of the accident. I had backup calls from Shannons to make sure we were happy and had received the check. In my opinion the $14,500 was above market value. The Mrs got caught out in a hale storm in the M3. it was fixed to my very fussy high expectations. They weren't happy with the first paint less dent removal person and called in a second repair person . this was Shannons choice not mine so couldn't be happier.

Shannons insured my modded vy ss ute when nobody else would & had it repaired no issues straight to panelshop when uninsured driver sideswiped it.

No real issues with Shannons other than them being little slow to catch up on car valuations as what mine are insured for no chance buying another at current prices.

Hey Guys, have been insured with shannons on and off for ten years. I havnt made a claim, but find there staff always friendly and helpful. I have laid up cover and selvage rights. Have spoke to them about increasing the value of my car. They asked for currant photos, that I sent emails taken from my phone. They informed myself the picture quality was poor and asked for better pics. They also sent me an email with there requirements. When the car is finished I will take it into there shop to be valued.

I used to be insured with them. Made a claim on the old VY SS about ten years ago without incident.

No longer insured with them as their prices are not even close to being competitive.

Shop around!

Ive made a claim with Shannons when some f*cktard scratched and dented my car at a car show (I could have killed them, fresh paint and all). Shannons were excellent and really helpful. Could not have asked for more. I was so impressed I immediately transferred my home insurance with shannons (home insurance was about the same price as who I was with but I simply have more faith in shannons- so I swapped).

I would not bother trying to insure a modern car with them though- they are classic specialists and their prices (of modern cars) reflects this.

Insurance renewal time. Shannons premium has bumped up a fair hike, so I'm shopping around.
Anyone had any dealings with this mob? https://www.enthusiast.com.au Their advert has been spamming my Facebook feed for a few weeks now.
Also see that RAC are doing 'Classic Car' insurance & are getting a quote from Lumley.

Just give them a call, call them a pack of crooks and get them to do a better deal. Thats what I did with AMP and our mortgage, and regularly do it with Shannons.

My black is now insured for $100,000 with a $635 p/a premium.

Yea, Thats a plan too, just shits me that you have to do that. Been insuring with them for 12 years without a claim. Their best price should be the 1st price.
In Sept last year they valued the XU-1 at $135k & the premium was $800, just got the renewal & it's now $1k.

Shannons suck! They insure my XU1 for $59K...yep. That’s not a typo.

Hatch insured for significantly less than the receipts total I have for its purchase+resto.

I’m looking around as soon as I can get some good quality photos of both cars.

I have 6 policies with Shannons and I will be moving them all.

Rant over...for now.

Cheers,

Liz :)

That's unreal. I put a heap of photos in an album on google photos & sent them the link, they rang & asked me what I thought it's value was. I said maybe $120k, they suggested the agreed value of $135k.

Can insure a $400k house for less.

I've found that choice of repairer is pretty much a given with any insurer.
