It was a while ago, but it may still be sitting in the back of his shed.

Shouldn't be too difficult or expensive to get those cuts.

BUT maybe if you just want to glue an ashtray fascia into the dash, it's no big deal? I personally don't see any value in having an actual ashtray assembly in a Torana.

I also personally wouldn't leave the dash metal looking that shithouse, though. Haha.

Agree Heath, as long as the dash looks right, no need for a working ashtray, less weight that way, more fast too LOL

Started playing with the sills.
My torana has dents at the front of the sill in the same spot on both sides.
No idea what from. Maybe from getting towed onto the drag strip or trailer? Either way it's a good bloody ding/dent on both sides.
I paint stripped the sills, found a little rust on the drivers side in the back door area and decided to cut it all out.
Also decided to cut a good square out where the dent is and I found some small rust holes at the back so I cut a square there too.
Then I decided to cut a square in the middle so i could treat the entire sill internally.
I found some surface rust as to be expected
Gave the whole thing a good blow out.
Then I wire brushed inside each hole as far as I could before spraying ranex everywhere internally and blowing it down in there with compressed air

I Did the passenger side aswell.
It was in a little better condition internally than the drivers side
You can see from the photos there is more surface rust either end where the wheels are compared to the middle of the sill. Maybe small holes and water getting in some how.
I did the same treatment as the other side.
Got this all done before Toranafest.
Also i got a legend off of the whisper Facebook page to cut out and bring me the dash cuts that I needed to Torana Fest.
Thanks again Neil!!!41180a73c37dbe595e1b0e214d71ae13.jpg474fdf6a140db783b76e60291158c644.jpg58b8fefa3993ebd3a9d40f6823bd073d.jpg71426d0fdced3d791f8a3352e97ae3e0.jpg19a86752e33c32a968d6ebf3220795cf.jpg9b00b81941458af3e6a5e1960887ef7a.jpgf1d1ccf7127aa64c45a216f2b531916a.jpgdced75da316c6c5256da87291f61ef9a.jpgd5d7d972f4ca9f7612cabd01dfc6995d.jpg

I went to Toranafest for the first time and it was unreal.
Took so many photos of Toranas haha.
I took so many photos of little details to help me with my build.
I have always wanted a Barbados green Torana but there are heaps of them getting around.
They are bloody sexy though.
There was only one Montery green one there and it was a beast.
I dunno what colour to do mine I change every week now hahaa57e8c38f3f937faafd8aff9061d31d02.jpgb12e0a81679470ce2a38e2e48761e8af.jpgf47e6783f51e69bdd6b3837388c7adb6.jpg7ba902e594a3b4db02c47476cd2f5225.jpg31cfcd06485f4ed53cb1e71f2eec94a2.jpg298332d4cbf4a1dfa8cbba8e8f7189be.jpg

A few afternoons last week I came home from work and did a bit on the Torrie.
I painted 2 coats of KBS rust seal up inside the sills as far up as i could reach with my arm and paint brush. Both sides
Once dry a couple of days later I sprayed the knock out rust up inside both sills.
Making sure to get it on both faces of the sills and cover everywhere.
No rust getting in there now surely!!
Also got either new dash piece 3 stepped KBS process and ready to cut in27c78701fb602aa0039b6d71bf67f562.jpgeef50877d98a2cd2b92761fe7bc035b5.jpgce431d9f85b4f79bb8025d2a5b383e1a.jpgeb87ee32a3170e8aa3104d6919848fe1.jpg8e565bc236c4955c7aa9c5bf00fe09f6.jpgd90d021ddf697eb4de43df37e96f579d.jpg2706be69ccfaec276daf42385bbf3c67.jpg0cae26e1d450cce26c7e373b5ec4c7b9.jpg

I spent 7 hours straight last Saturday with my trusty grinder, flap discs, paint stripper discs and wire brush attachments finishing the floors and under the dash.
Also in there with my propane torch heating up and scraping out all the seam sealer etc.
Comes out easily when heated up.
That was the absolute worst job ever, so dirty.
So sore Hahaa.
Glad it's over.
Found a few small dints in the floor which I had to heat up and panel beat out.
Also found some small.holes etc I need to weld repair in the floor pans. All in all happy with the end result. All fish oiled now until I repair.
Went to Sydney tools on Sunday and brought myself a sand blaster.
Keen to put it to the test soon. Plan on doing all the hard to reach spots around the doors etc.
Brand new it was only 158 bucks.
Got a wedding to go to this weekend so have to wait till the weekend after.
Slowly chipping away.f699ef586db93dc42f7226ab59c4e861.jpg6aac909514eeec3bd94dd6f1b177b725.jpg1728fdffbe993b6438a73227bc3458d5.jpg261d5941d74f252646635aa75c9d5384.jpge89654c87aa8371031b20af23071bd34.jpgace194b14e4e8ec5d48235f0f8df4a59.jpga7052709c079b8197aee9a3f3bc1a828.jpg0f65a6d50db170923826666e33aaf1a4.jpgb41aebc9d7a2c015e9ac96540af2cb46.jpg

If you are stuck on green, how about the Verde Mantis green on Lambo's?

Mate my brother has suggested the same green.
It's awesome.
He reckons there is a website that can give you all of the lambo paint colours converted to PPG paint formulas. Have you heard of this?
I also like the new lambo green, it is different though. Check it out 436ff9381bffa42b2b2c5f3e2cd54b89.jpgbceb38fe0bb0b3dede4549167508f8bd.jpg60c72574b38756126a70576df5172fb1.jpg

The diff looks a lot like the one that was in my Hatchback. It went to the Gold Coast so the diff may have made it to Ballina. It was a HZ sedan diff with 3.08 gears, shortened with banjo top mounts welded on. I sourced A9X axles for it and just used HZ rear disc setup. If you look closely when you clean it up if it was mine it will be a HZ diff so will have HZ sway bar mounts, plus will have lines of centre punch marks on the tubes where the mounts were lined up. From memory I always had trouble getting one of the axle bearing outer races to seat properly too. The axles were ex Craven Mild Alan Grice spares from memory.

My vote for colour would be Saffron Metallic. The original LH SLR5000 press test car was Saffron. Colour here:

Someone using the jack in the wrong spot or maybe the 2 post hoist trick for the dents in the sills?

Cheers

That green Lambo you put up would be a great colour with L34 blackouts.  No idea on the PPG numbers though.

I think you'll find that Lambo colour is a satin finish, and would look totally different (and probably not very good) in gloss, on a Torana.

If you like green, and don't want Barbados, I would recommend Super Mint. That is a killer colour.

I had the busiest lead up to Christmas and really didn't do much at all with the car.
Started to have a play when we got back from holidays and I spent 3 hours underneath the car one Saturday and came to the realisation that I needed to get a rotisserie or else I will never finish the thing and prob kill myself trying.
So I picked up a brand spanky last weekend.da3ea7a6bdc690689de81c30fd71287b.jpgfc2babaedd63b5adc504930c96892377.jpg4ed07263d59e7032eee6b2c1d907b59b.jpg32df643349f0f1cffe26d720cc7fbf4f.jpg

Fit my replacement battery tray and welded it into position. Stills needs a little grinder action but looking good 7b70f8a939a68c7f53d193748636b51b.jpgc5566fede1bf0c1a46390d4101633657.jpg121e40e2fbef4b9b7165a185f9bddfe1.jpgda5b8931be2088dd12f145aceb812b96.jpge2b3d0e603f6b34bb283d3db96220f95.jpg4bf1522850359590bc99d340574cef79.jpg

Took out the front and rear end and fitted it to the rottisserie.
I made up brackets for the rear out of and old metal lintel angle I had.
I put a plate on the inside also and the hogh tensile bolts go right through.
I then welded the rottisserie arms onto my new brackets b59543948e0d4ac0fc16f3db95d15e8a.jpg428e15f68491a290437944cefb0c3cd1.jpg4fce9d33eff4f8cf429be530c3128beb.jpgd676cf75be055664fdd7acfdddf2fcee.jpgf0a8eb801baa3a8e7fd4d66c2d62b32a.jpgc550d895e4d6937c07c702fdc3c65498.jpgb8e733d53c5d606ef88c3f72ff159b0f.jpg

The front rottisserie arms go into the number brackets and I have affixed them with metal screws.
Dad and I did an 11 - 9 pm shift but we got it all done and now she does 360's.
Ready to start playing underneath now.
As I am putting in the factory buckets I need to weld in the floor mounts etc so this is going to make life so much easier.
