I have the LJ Engineering Technical Specs, all revisions from first release including August 1973. There is no alternator listed other than 35A. So my guess is the 30A and 45A are not current related unless they are at different alternator rpm to what GMH rate them at (4650 for Bosch, 4460 for Lucas).
If I was more observant the parts cat actually lists the alternator for a 4 cyl as either 629 212 40A or 629 212 40B so obviously A doesn't refer to amps. Those I'm still at a loss as to the difference and whether a 45A was used in the LJ's. A 73 S I dismantaled years ago had a 30A but this was NZ assembled so can't rely on this being correct for Aust build vehicles.
Does the tech spec just specify the charging current at 35A for the Alternator and not the model / type of alternator?
Cheers
